Beijing Hyundai, Hyundai Motor’s Chinese joint venture, has launched the Ioniq V with competitive entry pricing and more trim options to compete in China’s electric sedan market.
The mid-size sedan went on sale on Tuesday, with 5 variants at limited-time prices ranging from 99,900 yuan ($14,820) to 131,900 yuan.
Suggested retail prices range from 109,900 yuan to 139,900 yuan, with limited-time launch discounts of 8,000 yuan or 10,000 yuan, depending on the variant.
The model opened for pre-sales at the Chengdu Auto Show in August with 3 variants priced between 119,900 yuan and 139,900 yuan. The launch adds the entry-level 540 Pro and long-range 650 Max.
The new entry-level variant and limited-time discounts bring the Ioniq V’s starting price 20,000 yuan below its pre-sales starting price.
The Ioniq V is the first production model since Hyundai introduced the Ioniq brand in China this year. Its performance will test the South Korean automaker’s renewed electrification strategy in the country.
Led by Hyundai’s China design center, the sedan was developed for Chinese customers and is also intended for other markets. It is the production version of the Venus Concept unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April.
The Ioniq V features a fastback design and frameless doors. It measures 4,900 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width and 1,470 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.
Built on E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), the model offers single-motor versions with peak outputs of 140 kW (188 hp) and 168 kW, and supports 800-volt fast charging.
CATL (HKEX: 3750) supplies the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, available in capacities of 53.48 kWh and 66.85 kWh. CLTC range options are 540 km and 650 km.
The sedan’s technology features reflect Hyundai’s growing use of China’s supply chain. The cabin has a 27-inch 4K screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip, with a head-up display also available.
The infotainment system integrates AI models including Baidu’s Ernie Bot and ByteDance’s Doubao. It supports independent voice control across 4 zones in the front and rear, continuous dialogue and multiple commands.
For driver assistance, the Ioniq V offers an L2+ system developed with Momenta (HKEX: 6880), featuring highway navigation assistance, urban memory navigation assistance and parking assistance.
Beijing Hyundai is also offering a lifetime vehicle warranty as part of its launch benefits, along with battery replacement for degradation and compensation for spontaneous battery fires, subject to time and mileage limits, to bolster buyer confidence.
When Hyundai formally introduced the Ioniq brand in China in April, it outlined plans to launch 20 battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models locally over the next 5 years.
The company aims to expand its China business to 500,000 vehicles by 2030 through local development and partnerships with Chinese suppliers. The Ioniq V is among the first products in that expansion plan.
Hyundai is revamping its China product roadmap with the Ioniq brand, planning to launch 20 new NEV models within five years to target a sales volume of 500,000 units by 2030.
