    • The Stelato G9 has a starting pre-sales price of 439,800 yuan ($64,780) and received 5,100 pre-orders within the first 2 hours.
    • It is the first model approved for Level 3 autonomous-driving road tests at speeds of up to 120 km/h in Beijing.

The Stelato G9, the first off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle) under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance), began pre-sales on Wednesday, with a starting price of 439,800 yuan ($64,780).

The model made its appearance at the same event where another HIMA brand Maextro launched 2 MPVs and is expected to officially go on sale in the third quarter.

Huawei described the Stelato G9 as the first luxury rugged SUV designed around a Level 3 autonomous-driving architecture. It also debuts Huawei’s all-terrain Tuling platform.

Other technologies making their debut include an 800-volt fully active disconnecting stabilizer bar, Huawei’s adaptive differential-lock electric-drive system and a new vehicle-to-vehicle communications system.

The vehicle is the first to receive a Beijing road-testing permit for Level 3 autonomous driving at speeds of up to 120 km/h. It is equipped with Huawei’s latest-generation LiDAR and Huawei ADS 5 and debuts what the company calls the industry’s first circular ADS assisted-driving indicator light.

Its chassis uses a front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension setup, along with centrally supplied dual-chamber air springs. It supports up to 12 degrees of rear-wheel steering in either direction.

An all-terrain sensing system allows the vehicle to identify road conditions and automatically adjust its chassis settings.

The Stelato G9 has a standard ground clearance of 202 mm, which can be raised to as much as 282 mm, and a maximum wading depth of 900 mm. Its air suspension offers an adjustment range of 80 mm upward and 50 mm downward.

The vehicle measures 5,206 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width and 1,897 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. Its length increases to 5,377 mm when fitted with an optional rear-mounted storage box.

The model is rated to tow as much as 2,000 kg. It is available in a 2+3 five-seat layout and a 2+2+2 six-seat configuration.

All variants come standard with an 800-volt high-voltage platform and four-wheel drive. The front motor delivers peak power of 160 kW, while the rear motor produces 277 kW, giving the system a combined output of 437 kW, or 586 hp.

The battery-electric version uses a 120-kWh ternary lithium battery pack and has a CLTC range of 728 km.

The extended-range version is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender and a 75.4-kWh battery pack. It has a CLTC battery-only range of 405 km and a combined range of more than 1,366 km.

Stelato was jointly created by Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group). The brand previously offered only the S9 sedan and S9T station wagon, with the G9 marking its entry into the rugged off-road vehicle segment.

Stelato is one of the 5 brands under Huawei’s HIMA. The others are Aito, built with Seres (HKEX: 9927); Luxeed, built with Chery (HKEX: 9973); Maextro, built with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC); and Shangjie, built with SAIC Motor (SSE: 600104).

HIMA’s July deliveries fell 4.92% year-on-year and 11.02% from June.
