The Stelato G9, part of Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), will open pre-orders in China on August 5, becoming the alliance’s first rugged SUV (sport utility vehicle).
Stelato announced on Weibo on Tuesday that the G9 will open for pre-sales at an event starting at 2:30 pm Beijing Time on August 5. The large SUV is expected to be officially launched in the third quarter.
Yesterday, Maextro, another HIMA brand, said it would launch the Maextro V800 and V680, two luxury extended-range MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles), at the same event.
The Stelato G9 has a boxy body, with a full-width chrome trim strip and vertical round light clusters at the front, plus an illuminated brand logo.
It measures 5,206 mm long, 2,050 mm wide and 1,897 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. With an optional rear-mounted storage box, the length can reach 5,377 mm, according to its regulatory filing.
For off-road capability, the vehicle has a wading depth of 900 mm. It features a side-opening tailgate, and options include an external storage box, power side steps, roof rack and tow hook.
The Stelato G9 will also be offered in a rooftop-tent version, where the roof lifts from one side and extends into a two-part tent.
The interior takes a rugged design approach, with a triple-screen center console. Seating comes in two layouts, a 2+3 five-seater and a 2+2+2 six-seater, with the six-seat version featuring independent captain’s chairs in the second row.
The vehicle comes factory-certified for towing up to 2,000 kg, allowing it to pull travel trailers and similar loads.
In terms of powertrain, all Stelato G9 versions come standard with an 800-volt high-voltage platform and Huawei’s Giant Whale battery system.
It uses dual motors for all-wheel drive, with the front motor peaking at 160 kW and the rear at 277 kW, for a combined system output of 437 kW (586 hp).
The BEV version carries a 120 kWh ternary lithium battery for more than 700 km of CLTC range. The EREV version pairs a 1.5T range extender with a 75.4 kWh battery pack, offering over 400 km of CLTC electric range and a combined range of more than 1,300 km.
Stelato is a joint effort between Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), and until now has offered only the S9 sedan and the S9T shooting brake. The G9 will take the brand into the rugged off-road segment.
In September 2025, Huawei and BAIC upgraded their partnership into a “strategic community” model, pledging to invest 20 billion yuan ($2.94 billion) over the next three years in areas including design, assisted driving and smart cockpits.
Stelato is one of five brands under Huawei’s HIMA, alongside Seres’ (HKEX: 9927) Aito, Chery’s (HKEX: 9973) Luxeed, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group’s (JAC) Maextro, and SAIC Motor’s (SSE: 600104) Shangjie.
Stelato G9 offers both extended-range and all-electric powertrains, with the EREV version featuring a 75-kWh large battery.
