- The Luxeed RX starts at a pre-sales price of 299,800 yuan ($44,210), with dimensions close to the Xiaomi YU7 and a highly overlapping target customer base.

Luxeed, the EV brand jointly developed by Huawei and Chery (HKEX: 9973), opened pre-orders in China on Thursday for its new RX coupe SUV (sport utility vehicle), adding another competitor to the Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) YU7.
The Luxeed RX is available in 2 variants, with pre-sales prices starting at 299,800 yuan ($44,210) and 359,800 yuan, respectively. The former is equipped with an in-cabin LiDAR, while the latter features an architecture designed for L3 autonomous driving.
The model is expected to officially launch this fall. It is the first SUV under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) to break away from numerical naming and adopt letters instead.
The pre-sales pricing puts the Luxeed RX directly at the upper end of the Xiaomi YU7’s price range. The YU7 Standard currently starts at 233,500 yuan, while the high-performance YU7 GT starts at 389,900 yuan.
Both are low-slung, sporty all-electric SUVs with similar dimensions and highly overlapping target customers, further intensifying competition in one of China’s most crowded premium electric SUV segments.
The Luxeed RX is positioned as a mid-to-large all-electric coupe SUV and is built on Huawei’s Tuling platform. It measures 5,020 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width and 1,585 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
Powertrain options include a 277 kW (371 hp) single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration combining 160 kW and 277 kW motors. The model debuts Huawei’s latest high-performance electric drive system, with a maximum motor speed of 21,000 rpm.
The RX uses Huawei’s Giant Whale battery platform and offers battery packs with capacities of 100.424 kWh, 100.256 kWh and 81.1 kWh. Its CLTC range reaches up to 852 kilometers.
For assisted driving, the vehicle is equipped with a 4-LiDAR array and 38 fused-sensing sensors, including an 896-channel dual-optical-path imaging-grade LiDAR and 3 high-precision solid-state LiDAR units.
A 4-LiDAR setup remains uncommon in mass-produced vehicles, with most premium EVs in China currently using between 1 and 3 units.
The RX also features redundant systems for power supply, communications, perception, steering and braking to support L3 autonomous-driving scenarios.
The vehicle was designed by former Ferrari designer Werner Gruber, who previously led the design of the LaFerrari and FXX-K, while its chassis was tuned by Tobias Moers, former CEO of Aston Martin.
Other features include a 26-inch head-up display, a 16.1-inch central infotainment screen, intelligent wraparound seats with 98 pressure sensors, and a 1.8-square-meter powered partition sunshade.
The Luxeed RX will make its public debut at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, which opens on August 21. All 5 brands under HIMA will participate in the show.
Luxeed currently sells the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV and V9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle). The addition of the RX will expand its lineup to 4 models.
Luxeed plans to strengthen its market foundation in 2026 and aims to reach annual sales of 1 million vehicles by 2030, according to a previously announced plan.
The Luxeed V9 starts at 389,800 yuan ($57,290), marking the first MPV model under Huawei’s HIMA alliance.
