Luxeed, the electric vehicle brand jointly developed by Huawei and Chery (HKEX: 9973), officially launched the RX electric coupe SUV in China on Monday, with a starting price of 259,800 yuan ($38,550).
The model comes in 6 variants, priced at 259,800 yuan, 289,800 yuan, 319,800 yuan, 349,800 yuan, 369,800 yuan and 389,800 yuan.
The entry price is 10,000 yuan below the pre-sales starting price of 269,800 yuan announced on September 20. When reservations first opened on August 20, the starting price was 299,800 yuan.
Customers who place orders now can receive limited-time benefits worth up to 40,500 yuan, Luxeed said.
The RX is Luxeed’s fourth model, joining the S7 sedan, R7 coupe SUV and V9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle).
The pricing puts the RX in direct competition with the YU7 from Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810). The YU7’s standard version starts at 233,500 yuan, while the high-performance YU7 GT starts at 389,900 yuan.
The Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y and IM Motors LS6 also compete in the same price bracket. China’s premium electric SUV market is among its most fiercely contested segments.
Positioned as a mid-to-large electric coupe SUV, the Luxeed RX is built on Huawei’s Tuling platform. It measures 5,020 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width and 1,585 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
The RX debuts Huawei’s next-generation high-performance electric drive system, with a maximum motor speed of 21,000 rpm.
The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version has a rear motor producing up to 277 kW (371 hp), while the all-wheel-drive versions pair a 160 kW motor with a 277 kW motor.
Battery options include an 81 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack and a 100 kWh ternary lithium pack. Available CLTC ranges are 672 km, 702 km, 753 km, 822 km and 852 km.
All variants support 800-volt fast charging, allowing a charge from 30% to 80% in about 15 minutes. The RX can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 3.6 seconds and brake from 100 km/h to a standstill in 32.4 meters.
For driver assistance, the RX features a 4-LiDAR array within a suite of 38 sensors, including an 896-channel, dual-optical-path imaging LiDAR and 3 high-precision solid-state LiDAR units.
The RX’s architecture is designed for Level 3 autonomous driving, with redundancy across 8 systems: perception, braking, positioning, power supply, steering, communications, interaction and computing.
Luxeed said the model has obtained a Level 3 autonomous driving road-test permit and is undergoing testing in complex traffic conditions, including on urban expressways.
The cabin features a 26-inch augmented-reality head-up display, a 16.1-inch swiveling central touchscreen and an 8.88-inch front-passenger display, along with smart wraparound seats incorporating 98 pressure sensors and 27 air bladders.
Luxeed executive director Zhao Changjiang previously said 70% of customers who reserved the RX were buying an additional vehicle for households that already owned a car.
The Luxeed V9 starts at 389,800 yuan ($57,290), marking the first MPV model under Huawei’s HIMA alliance.
