Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) launched the updated Galaxy E5 on Wednesday, with introductory prices ranging from 97,800 yuan ($14,490) to 137,800 yuan for a limited time. Official guide prices range from 107,800 yuan to 147,800 yuan.
The update is the most extensive overhaul of the compact electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) since its initial rollout in China in August 2024. Its previous annual update came in July 2025, with a starting price of 109,800 yuan.
The updated model is available in 5 core variants, alongside an additional version with a technology package. All but the entry-level variant use a full 800-volt architecture and switch from a front-mounted motor and front-wheel drive to a rear-mounted motor and rear-wheel drive.
The SUV measures 4,636 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. It is longer and wider than its predecessor, which measured 4,615 mm and 1,901 mm, respectively, while its height and wheelbase are unchanged.
The core variants feature a Leishen 16-in-1 intelligent electric drive system, with peak motor output of 245 kW (329 hp), up 85 kW from the predecessor’s 160 kW. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes as little as 5.8 seconds.
The entry-level 530 km Global Classic edition retains a 400-volt architecture and front-wheel drive, with a 160 kW motor and a DC charging rate of 1.8C.
The updated model offers 3 lithium iron phosphate battery options with capacities of 60.22 kWh, 61.52 kWh and 70.01 kWh, delivering CLTC ranges of 530 km, 550 km and 635 km, respectively.
The 800-volt variants use the new-generation Shendun Golden Battery with ultra-short blade cells, supporting a maximum charging rate of 6C and peak charging power of 460 kW. Charging from 10% to 70% takes 8 minutes and 25 seconds at normal ambient temperatures.
Driver assistance is another area of improvement. Selected variants feature roof-mounted LiDAR and the Geely Afari Smart Driving (G-ASD) H5 system, with 27 high-performance sensors supporting urban and highway NOA (Navigation on Autopilot).
The cockpit runs Flyme Auto 2, powered by a Longying 4-nanometer cockpit chip, and features a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, a head-up display and a 23-speaker audio system.
The updated model also adds a 160-liter frunk, a feature its predecessor lacked.
The Galaxy E5 is among Geely’s most important global models. It is sold as the EX5 in export markets and as the Proton eMas 7 in Malaysia.
Geely previously said cumulative sales exceeded 150,000 units within 10 months of the model’s launch.
Geely’s system took just 4 minutes and 30 seconds to charge from 10% to 70% in real-world tests, beating BYD’s 5 minutes.
