Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) launched the Monjaro EM-i in Egypt on August 29, officially beginning the global roll-out of its first hybrid D-SUV, according to a company statement on Monday.
The new model made its debut in Cairo on August 29, with a focus on comfort, energy efficiency and handling, the company said.
Geely said the model is designed to set a new benchmark for quality and driving refinement in the hybrid D-SUV segment.
The Monjaro EM-i is built on the GEA (Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture) Evo platform, which supports flexible interior layouts and multiple powertrain types.
The vehicle measures 4.8 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2,845 mm. Its seats use an 11-layer composite “Marshmallow” SPA structure.
It is powered by Geely’s EM-i Super Hybrid system, combining an electric drive system with a dedicated 1.5TD hybrid engine.
The Ultra AWD version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.83 seconds, providing sufficient performance for highway merging, overtaking and fully loaded driving.
The cabin features the Flyme Auto infotainment system and Flyme Sound audio system, along with a symmetrical layout and ambient lighting.
The Monjaro is the overseas version of Geely’s Xingyue L and is already sold in Russia, the Middle East, Australia and Latin America. It was previously offered with a 2.0T gasoline engine and a hybrid powertrain.
The launch comes as overseas markets become a major source of growth for Geely. The company exported 474,228 vehicles in the first half of the year, up 157.6% from a year earlier.
Exports reached a record 106,663 vehicles in July, surging 202% year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. Domestic sales fell 29.1% over the same period.
Geely raised its full-year export target to 920,000 vehicles from 640,000 on August 17. It designated Latin America and Africa, a region that includes Egypt, as a key market with a 200,000-vehicle sales target.
Geely Auto’s first-half revenue rose 15% year-on-year to a record 173.6 billion yuan ($25.58 billion), while core profit increased 46%.
