Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175) has started local mass production in Brazil of its best-selling small electric hatchback, the Geely EX2 — known as the Xingyuan in China — to meet demand for the model in Latin America’s largest auto market.
Renault Geely do Brasil, the joint venture between Renault and Geely, is producing the Geely EX2 at the Ayrton Senna Complex plant in the state of Paraná, according to a press release from Geely on Wednesday.
The model, built on Geely’s GEA (Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture) platform, is the second product the joint venture has put into production in Brazil, following the EX5 EM-i hybrid SUV (sport utility vehicle).
The Geely EX2 entered the Brazilian market in November 2025. Demand for the model, positioned as a cost-effective city mobility option, has continued to climb since its launch, prompting Geely to formally incorporate local production into its strategic planning, according to the press release.
The strong performance of the Geely EX2 demonstrates Geely’s strength in product development and market positioning, said Chen Jianjun, head of Renault Geely do Brasil.
Going forward, as market demand continues to grow and more competitive models are introduced, Geely Brazil will continue to accelerate its localization efforts, he added.
The Geely EX2 is sold in China as the Xingyuan and is one of the country’s best-selling small EVs.
The model saw retail sales of 465,775 units in China in 2025, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
In May, the Xingyuan topped China’s passenger vehicle retail sales rankings with 38,751 units, ahead of the second-ranked Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.

Geely launched an updated version of the Xingyuan in China on May 28, with a limited-time starting price of 61,800 yuan ($9,120), 6% lower than its predecessor, to solidify its position in China’s entry-level market.
Alongside the start of local EX2 production, Geely Brazil is also advancing a brand-building program to convert its product strengths into lasting market influence, the Chinese automaker said.
In April, Geely became the first Chinese brand to be an official automotive sponsor of Big Brother Brasil, the country’s flagship reality TV show.
Leveraging Brazil’s most influential entertainment IP, Geely reached tens of millions of Brazilian consumers and topped the local rankings for automotive brand buzz, according to the company.
Geely Brazil said it will continue to expand its efforts across more cities and more models, offering local consumers practical and affordable mobility options.
Geely’s localization push in Brazil comes as Chinese automakers accelerate their expansion into overseas markets, which are becoming a core growth engine for China’s auto industry.
China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) exports reached 424,000 units in May, up 112.6% year-on-year and accounting for 54% of the month’s total passenger vehicle exports, a record high, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association.
As a minority shareholder, Geely can now leverage Renault Brazil’s resources to accelerate its expansion in the region.
