- Equipped with 4 LiDAR sensors and Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system, the GX7 is seen as key to boosting the brand’s sales.
Aistaland, a brand jointly developed by GAC Group (HKEX: 2238) and Huawei, said Thursday that it will hold the launch event for its GX7 on September 23.
The 5-seat extended-range sport utility vehicle (SUV) opened for pre-sales on September 4, with prices ranging from 249,900 yuan ($36,980) to 311,900 yuan.
Aistaland said at the time that the GX7 received more than 20,000 pre-orders within 18 hours, with deliveries set to begin on launch day.
The GX7 is Aistaland’s second model and marks its first expansion from shooting brakes into the larger family SUV market.
The model comes in 3 variants, all with extended-range powertrains. The rear-wheel-drive Ultra variant has a pre-sales price of 249,900 yuan, while the dual-motor and tri-motor all-wheel-drive versions are priced at 269,900 yuan and 311,900 yuan, respectively.
The GX7 measures 5,099 mm in length, 2,006 mm in width and 1,750 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm. Its main rivals include the Aito M7, Li Auto’s (NASDAQ: LI) Li L6 and Xiaomi’s (HKEX: 1810) YU7.
The GX7 will feature Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system, with 4 LiDAR units and 38 perception sensors, including an 896-line dual-optical-path LiDAR.
Aistaland said the GX7 is the only model in its class built on an architecture designed for Level 3 autonomous driving, with redundancy in power supply, steering, braking, communications, positioning, computing, perception and interaction systems.
The cabin features HarmonySpace 6, dual 15.6-inch screens and an 88-inch augmented-reality head-up display. The second-row seats can form a fully flat bed in 20 seconds, and the vehicle offers more than 12 cabin configurations.
The tri-motor all-wheel-drive variant uses an 800-volt platform, delivers peak power of 550 kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. It supports 5C fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in about 10 minutes.
All variants use batteries from CATL (HKEX: 3750). CLTC battery-only range is 325 to 385 kilometers, while combined range is 1,500 to 1,580 kilometers.
Aistaland is among the brands Huawei has established with Chinese automakers under a new partnership model, distinct from the brands under the Huawei-led Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). Huawei’s team works alongside GAC in Guangzhou, while GAC handles vehicle development and manufacturing.
The brand’s first model, the GT7, was launched on June 26, but sales have been slow to gain traction. Aistaland sold 2,658 vehicles in July, before sales fell 58.62% month-on-month to 1,100 in August.
The SUV market targeted by the GX7 is far larger than the shooting-brake segment occupied by the GT7, making the new model pivotal to Aistaland’s prospects for meaningful sales growth.
Aito will remain in HIMA, while Huawei will continue to lead operations across the alliance’s 4 other brands.
