Aistaland, a brand jointly developed by GAC Group (HKEX: 2238) and Huawei, launched its second model, the GX7, on September 23, expanding its lineup in a bid to reverse a slow sales start.
The 5-seat extended-range SUV (sport utility vehicle) comes in 3 variants, with limited-time prices ranging from 229,900 yuan ($34,060) to 291,900 yuan. Official guide prices range from 239,900 yuan to 301,900 yuan.
The promotional prices include a 10,000 yuan discount on the final payment and are below the pre-sales range of 249,900 yuan to 311,900 yuan.
An additional 8,000 yuan trade-in subsidy brings prices down to between 221,900 yuan and 283,900 yuan during the promotional period.
The rear-wheel-drive Ultra version starts at 229,900 yuan under the limited-time offer, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version costs 249,900 yuan and the tri-motor all-wheel-drive version is priced at 291,900 yuan.
The Aistaland GX7 measures 5,099 mm in length, 2,006 mm in width and 1,750 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm.
Its main rivals include the Aito M7, Li Auto’s (NASDAQ: LI) Li L6 and Xiaomi’s (HKEX: 1810) YU7.
All variants feature a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender. The rear-wheel-drive version has a 200 kW (268 hp) motor and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The dual-motor version delivers 340 kW and completes the sprint in 4.9 seconds, while the tri-motor version produces 550 kW and takes 3.9 seconds.
Batteries supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750) include a 52 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack and a 67 kWh ternary lithium pack. CLTC battery-only range is between 325 km and 385 km, while combined range is between 1,500 km and 1,580 km.
The tri-motor version uses an 800-volt platform and supports 5C fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in 10 minutes. The other 2 versions take 15 minutes.
Smart technology is a key selling point. The GX7 is among the first models to feature Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5 assisted-driving system and is equipped with 4 LiDAR units and 38 perception sensors, including an 896-channel dual-optical-path LiDAR.
Aistaland said the GX7 is the only model in its class with an architecture designed for Level 3 autonomous driving, featuring redundancy across 8 areas: power supply, steering, braking, communications, positioning, computing, perception and interaction.
The cabin features Huawei’s HarmonySpace 6 cockpit system, dual 15.6-inch displays, an 88-inch augmented-reality head-up display and a 21-speaker Huawei Sound audio system.
Aistaland is among the brands Huawei has developed under a new partnership model, separate from the Huawei-led HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance).
A Huawei team is based in Guangzhou to work alongside GAC, which is responsible for vehicle development and manufacturing.
The brand launched its first model, the GT7, on June 26, but sales have been slow to ramp up. Aistaland sold 2,658 vehicles in July, before sales fell 58.62% month-on-month to 1,100 in August, according to GAC data.
The family SUV market targeted by the GX7 is far larger than the shooting brake segment in which the GT7 competes, making the new model a key prospect for expanding Aistaland’s sales.
