GM is putting NACS DC fast-charging ports on its entire 2027 model-year EV lineup.
Every 2027 GM EV from Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC will come with a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, also known as SAE J3400. That means drivers will be able to plug directly into compatible Tesla Superchargers and other NACS fast chargers.
The 2026 Cadillac Optiq has already made the switch. The reborn Chevrolet Bolt, which arrives in 2026 as a 2027 model, also has a native NACS port.

Most 2026 GM EVs still need an adapter
Apart from the Optiq, GM’s 2026 EVs still come with a CCS1 port. Owners need GM’s NACS DC adapter to charge at compatible Tesla Superchargers and other NACS fast chargers.
That includes the 2026 Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado EV, Lyriq, Vistiq, Escalade IQ and IQL, Sierra EV, and both Hummer EV models.*
GM currently charges $275 for its approved NACS DC adapter. It works with compatible NACS DC fast chargers, including more than 27,500 Tesla Superchargers, although some Supercharger locations remain limited to Tesla vehicles.
When drivers buy a 2027 GM EV, they’ll of course need a different adapter to use fast chargers with CCS1 ports. They’ll also need a J1772 adapter for most existing Level 2 chargers, including many home charging units.
GM sells its CCS1 DC adapter for $189 and its J1772 adapter for $67, or both as a $256 package.
One app for multiple charging networks
GM is also trying to streamline charging apps and accounts. Its Energy Pass is built into the MyChevrolet, MyCadillac, and MyGMC apps and lets drivers register and pay across multiple networks.
Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, Electrify America, and ChargePoint are supported now, and EVgo is on the way. Together, those networks cover nearly 70% of US DC fast chargers, according to GM.
Energy Pass supports Plug & Charge at compatible stations, allowing the vehicle to handle authentication while payment runs in the background. GM says the feature is live at IONNA and is being expanded to other networks, including Tesla Superchargers.
The 2027 switch should make Tesla-style fast charging considerably easier, but keeping CCS1 and J1772 adapters in the trunk will still be a good idea.
