- This will mark the first auto-show appearance for Xiaomi’s Sky Nomad N90 and the Freelander 8.
- The 2025 Chengdu Auto Show attracted nearly 120 brands last year, with more than 1,600 models on display.
This year’s Chengdu Auto Show will be held in late August, with multiple closely watched new models set to make appearances.
The 29th Chengdu International Motor Show, or the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, will take place from August 21 to 30 at the Western China Expo City in Chengdu, Sichuan province, its organizers said Wednesday.
New models including Xiaomi’s (HKEX: 1810) all-new Sky Nomad N90 and the Freelander 8, the first production model from Chery and Jaguar Land Rover’s revived EV brand Freelander, will be on display.
The Chengdu Auto Show is 1 of China’s 5 A-level auto shows in China. The other 4 are the Shanghai Auto Show, the Beijing Auto Show, the Guangzhou Auto Show and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Auto Show, also known as the Shenzhen Auto Show.
The 2025 Chengdu Auto Show drew nearly 120 brands last year, with more than 1,600 models on display.
This year’s event will see a direct contest among overseas luxury brands, Chinese domestic automakers and EV startups.
In the overseas luxury camp, models including the Neue Klasse BMW iX3, the third-generation Audi Q5L and Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation S-Class will make appearances.
The Chinese domestic-brand lineup will include models such as the BYD (HKEX: 1211) Da Tang EV, Epicland X9, Jetta M6 and Luxeed V9.
Among the most closely watched is a “mystery new model” group, including Xiaomi’s Sky Nomad N90 and Freelander’s Freelander 8.
This will mark the first auto-show appearance for Xiaomi’s Sky Nomad lineup and the Freelander 8. Freelander’s first concept car, the Concept 97, was displayed at the Beijing Auto Show in late April.
Sky Nomad is Xiaomi EV’s second product series after the SU7/YU7, positioned as an “intelligent variable large-space SUV.”
The first models in the series completed regulatory filings last week, including the N90 3-row SUV and the N70 5-seat SUV.
The Freelander 8 is Freelander’s first production model. It will be equipped with Huawei’s 896-channel LiDAR and come standard across the lineup with Huawei’s Qiankun smart driving system.
Beyond new vehicles, this year’s show will also feature some of the most advanced automotive technologies currently in focus, including Huawei Qiankun ADS 5, 896-channel LiDAR, BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and BYD’s megawatt-level flash charging.
The Chengdu Auto Show is held annually. As the most important automotive industry event in western China, it has become a key platform for automakers to reach consumers in the country’s southwest.
Before that, another A-level Auto Show in 2026, the Shenzhen Auto Show, closed on June 7. The event attracted 810,000 visits and generated 39,253 vehicle orders.
A shift to annual hosting would put the 2027 Beijing and Shanghai shows on the same stage in the same year for the first time.
