Changan Automobile’s (SHE: 000625) electric vehicle brand Deepal opened pre-sales for the revamped S05 on Thursday, updating one of its most important models.
The revamped Deepal S05 SUV (sport utility vehicle) has a pre-sales price range of 119,900 yuan ($17,660) to 151,900 yuan, with the high-end models equipped with LiDAR.
The pre-sales period runs from 10:00 am on July 30 to 8:00 pm on August 6 in China. Customers who pay a 1,000-yuan deposit can receive a limited-time benefit worth 2,000 yuan.
The 5 variants have pre-sales prices of 119,900 yuan, 129,900 yuan, 141,900 yuan, 139,900 yuan and 151,900 yuan, respectively.
The S05’s higher-trim variants using a 128-channel LiDAR supplied by Hesai (NASDAQ: HSAI).
The new S05 is powered by 2 J6M chips from Horizon Robotics (HKEX: 9660), enabling urban navigation-assisted driving functions.
Deepal chairman Deng Chenghao previously said the vehicle’s smart-cockpit chip had been upgraded to a 3-nanometer process, significantly improving system responsiveness.
The new S05 is currently available only as an all-electric model, with two battery capacities of 56.12 kWh and 68.82 kWh, corresponding to CLTC ranges of 520 kilometers and 620 kilometers, respectively.
The S05 was originally launched in China in October 2024, with the previous version starting at 116,900 yuan.
The revamped model’s starting price is 3,000 yuan higher alongside the equipment upgrades. However, new vehicles in China are typically priced below their pre-sales levels when they officially go on sale.
Deepal is a new energy vehicle brand unveiled by Changan in 2022. Its first model, the SL03, was launched in July 2022 to compete with Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA)’s Model 3.
Deepal’s current lineup includes the SL03, L06 and L07 sedans, as well as the S05, S07, S09 and G318 SUVs.
Deepal sold 33,625 vehicles globally in June, up 12.5% year-on-year and 1.2% from May. First-half sales reached 164,156 units, an increase of 14.6% from a year earlier.
Deepal has delivered about 900,000 vehicles since its establishment, with overseas markets becoming an important pillar of its growth.
Changan said its solid-state battery project is progressing steadily, with plans to validate the technology in robots and vehicles by the third quarter of this year.
