Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Successor Reportedly Planned as Next-Gen Super Sedan Takes Shape : Automotive Addicts

Cadillac’s CT5-V Blackwing may not be heading quietly into history after all. While the current-generation CT5-V Blackwing is set to end after the 2026 model year, a new report from GM Authority claims Cadillac is planning a successor as part of the next-generation CT5 lineup. Cadillac has already confirmed that the CT5 nameplate will continue with an internal-combustion replacement, but the brand has not officially announced whether the next lineup will include another CT5-V or CT5-V Blackwing.

That distinction matters because the current Blackwing is one of the last great modern American performance sedans. Its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 produces 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, and buyers can still pair it with a six-speed manual transmission. Add rear-wheel drive, serious chassis tuning, and a soundtrack that feels increasingly rare in today’s luxury market, and the CT5-V Blackwing has become something of a future collectible before it has even left production.

Details on the reported successor remain thin. It is not yet clear what engine Cadillac would use, whether the manual transmission would survive, or how closely the new Blackwing would follow the current car’s formula. The next-generation CT5 is expected to ride on an updated version of GM’s Alpha 2 rear-drive architecture, which could also be shared with a future Chevrolet Camaro. That platform connection gives enthusiasts reason to hope Cadillac can keep the car properly performance-focused.

The big question is whether Cadillac preserves the magic or reinvents the recipe. Keeping a supercharged V8 and manual gearbox would instantly make the next CT5-V Blackwing one of the most desirable performance sedans on the market. But emissions rules, cost pressures, and changing buyer demands could push Cadillac toward a different solution, possibly with electrification, a different engine, or a more technology-heavy approach. For now, the encouraging news is that the Blackwing story may not be over, and Cadillac may still see value in building a world-class gasoline-powered super sedan for drivers who refuse to let that formula fade away.
