The new Denza Z9 GT can drive over 1,000 km (621 miles) without stopping, fully recharge in under 10 minutes, and starts at about $40,000 in China. Now, BYD is unleashing it in Europe, the UK, and several other markets.

BYD Denza Z9 GT is China’s top-selling luxury GT

After launching the all-new Z9 GT in March, BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Denza, boasted it was the “world’s longest pure electric driving range electric vehicle.”

Thanks to BYD’s breakthrough 122 kWh Blade Battery 2.0, the luxury GT offers an impressive pure electric driving range of up to 1,036 km (643 miles) under CLTC conditions. On the WLTP cycle, the Denza Z9 GT is still rated with up to 599 km (372 miles) of range.

As one of the first vehicles with BYD’s new Flash Charging technology, the Z9 GT can recharge as quickly as filling up a gas vehicle.

With up to 1,500 kW of charging power, the Flash Charging stations deliver what BYD calls the principle of “Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3.”

It takes just 5 minutes for the Denza Z9 GT EV to recharge from 10% to 70%. To go from 10% to 97% it takes 9 minutes. And in temperatures as low as -30°C, it takes only 3 minutes longer to replenish the battery from 20% to 97%.

According to Denza’s general manager, Li Hui, the luxury EV is already a hit in China. Hui announced 5,949 Z9 GT models were sold in May, making it China’s top-selling luxury GT.

Denza’s general manager also confirmed BYD is working to increase production of the new Blade Batteries. BYD’s CEO, Wang Chuanfu, admitted that demand for vehicles equipped with the new tech has exceeded the company’s production capacity.

Hui said that output is limited “because the technology is so advanced,” adding that “the Denza team has moved into the battery base to expedite battery production.”

The Denza Z9 GT is available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and purely electric (EV) versions. Hui said the company aims to deliver most customer orders for the EV variant from mid-May this month.

Denza announced last week that it has already delivered over 10,000 models in less than three months.

BYD opened orders for the new Denza Z9 GT in Europe in April, starting at €115,000 ($134,500) in Germany and France (including VAT). Although it’s significantly more expensive overseas, BYD’s luxury EV is still cheaper than the Porsche Panamera, priced from around €116,400 ($136,000) in Germany.

Measuring 5,195 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm, the Denza Z9 GT is nearly the same size as the Porsche Panamera.

Orders initially opened in major markets, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK, but BYD plans to open orders in 30 countries by the end of 2026.
