    • BYD has yet to announce the model’s planned launch date, though rumors suggest it could be on August 13.
    • The Qin series is one of BYD’s best-selling model lines, but its sales have fallen sharply this year.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) has released a set of official interior images of its new mid-size Qin Max sedan, as the model’s rumored August launch draws closer.

Lu Tian, head of sales for the company’s Dynasty lineup, shared the images on Weibo on Wednesday, showing a new interior color called “Dawn Purple.”

“A car that is the top choice for young people should not only be fun to drive, comfortable to sit in and convenient to use, but also look good,” Lu said. “This low-saturation purple is uplifting, and I hope you like it.”

The Qin Max features a minimalist interior with a floating center display and a column-mounted gear selector. The center console retains only a small number of physical buttons and knobs, the images show.

The car has a 2-spoke multifunction steering wheel and extensive piano-black trim. Threaded mounting points near the doors allow accessories such as action cameras to be installed.

BYD has yet to announce the model’s planned launch date, though rumors suggest it could be on August 13. Display vehicles are expected to begin arriving at stores by the end of this month.

Lu announced the Qin Max on July 13, describing it as the “extra-large” model in the Qin family. Positioned above the Qin L, the mid-size sedan is aimed at younger consumers and supports BYD’s flash charging technology.

On July 20, he released exterior images of the vehicle in a pale pink color, continuing the buildup ahead of its launch.

The Qin family currently includes the Qin Plus and Qin L, both of which are offered in battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions. The addition of the Qin Max will expand the lineup to 3 models.

The Qin Max has previously appeared in filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, covering both battery electric and plug-in hybrid variants.

The car measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, according to the filings.

For comparison, the Qin L measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.

The battery electric Qin Max is powered by a BYD motor with peak output of either 240 kW, or 322 hp, or 120 kW.

The plug-in hybrid version uses a system comprising a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor. The engine has peak output of 74 kW, while the motor delivers up to 175 kW.

The Qin series is one of BYD’s best-selling model lines, with sales of 661,090 units in 2025, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

However, sales of the series have fallen sharply this year. June sales were 14,900 units, down 66.17% from a year earlier.

The Qin series sold 149,174 units in the first half of the year, down 45.62% year-on-year.

A BYD executive previewed the electric 8-series Tang SUV, which is expected to launch in the second half of this year.
