BYD said the flagship sedan will feature “unprecedented disruptive technology” and will reportedly be the first EV to use its solid-state batteries.
BYD takes on ultra-luxe brands with Yangwang EV sedan
Yangwang is BYD’s highest-end brand with ultra-luxury models ranging from electric hypercars to extreme off-road SUVs.
BYD also uses Yangwang to showcase its breakthrough technologies. In the past, Yangwang vehicles have debuted with disruptive new tech, including BYD’s quad-motor e4 platform, second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging, and its Disus Intelligent Body Control System.
A new Yangwang model was recently spotted testing in China that, according to local reports, will push the brand further into the elite segment.
New images of the vehicle surfaced online, revealing a nearly identical design to the Rolls-Royce Phantom. It will even be BYD’s first vehicle with rear-hinged coach doors.
Hu Xiaoqing, Yangwang’s general manager, shared a few images of the flagship sedan on Weibo and confirmed that the car’s name has yet to be finalized. Internally, BYD is calling it “HU” for now.

The new model is “the culmination of three years of meticulous development by Yangwang, featuring the brand’s signature design language, and is an ultra-luxury executive sedan.”
No other details were revealed, but one image shows the vehicle at BYD’s Flash Charging station, suggesting it can support megawatt fast charging.

According to China’s Autohome, Yangwang’s executive-class EV sedan will be BYD’s first EV to use solid-state batteries among other new technologies.
Zheng Yu, Yangwang’s executive general manager, confirmed the new model will feature “unprecedented disruptive technology,” but didn’t reveal specifics.

The sedan measures about 5.5 meters in length, or about the size of the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class.
BYD executive vice president Stella Li confirmed in an exclusive interview with Carwow.es earlier this month that the company is “in the leading position” in solid-state battery tech and its commercialization.

Li said that BYD will “prove it” with its first vehicle equipped with solid-state batteries set to debut in 2027.
BYD’s battery R&D team is “very strong,” Li said, adding that they are studying the battery chemistry as well as the manufacturing and equipment needed for mass production.
FinDreams, BYD’s battery business, aims to begin producing sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries in limited batches in 2027, scaling up to mass production by 2030.
Will Yangwang’s ultra-luxe sedan be the first to showcase BYD’s solid-state batteries? If it does, it will likely be offered on higher-priced variants, while standard models could still use BYD’s latest Blade LFP batteries.
Outside of that, the flagship model is expected to feature BYD’s quad-motor e4 platform, delivering over 1,000 hp combined.
BYD has yet to announce prices or any details, but reports estimate the Yangwang sedan will cost over 2 million yuan, or nearly $300,000.
The Yangwang U7, the brand’s current luxury electric sedan, starts at just 658,000 yuan ($98,000). According to Autohome, the new executive-class sedan is expected to make its official debut in October, so we should learn more shortly. Check back soon. We’ll keep you updated.
