- Datang EV began pre-sales on April 24, with orders topping 100,000 units in the first two weeks.

BYD (HKEX: 1211) will officially launch the Datang (or Great Tang) EV on June 17, marking the first D-segment flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle) in its Dynasty lineup.
Local automotive media Auto Home reported the date on Monday, though BYD has not yet announced the schedule through its official channels.
The Datang EV previously began pre-sales on April 24 at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, with a pre-sales price range of 250,000 yuan ($36,850) to 320,000 yuan.
The full-size SUV has received a strong market response. Within the first 24 hours of pre-sales, its orders quickly surpassed 30,000 units.
As of May 7, total pre-sales orders for the Datang EV had exceeded 100,000 units. This indicates the growing appeal of the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker in the premium market.
The Datang EV is equipped with BYD’s latest second-generation Blade Battery. The model achieves a record maximum pure electric range of 950 kilometers, the longest range among large pure electric SUVs globally.
The vehicle adopts a 1,000-volt high-voltage architecture and features megawatt-level flash charging technology. Supported by a 10C charging rate and a 1,000-ampere charging current, the vehicle can achieve a peak charging power of 1,000 kilowatts.
The Datang EV offers multiple powertrain options, including single-motor and dual-motor four-wheel drive. The four-wheel-drive version with an 850-kilometer range boasts a maximum power of 585 kilowatts. The powerful powertrain enables the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.9 seconds.
The flagship SUV measures 5,263 millimeters in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. The interior features China’s first 2+2+3 large seven-seat layout, focusing on spacious cabin room.
The new car is equipped with the God’s Eye 5.0 advanced driver assistance system. A LiDAR is mounted on the roof to support assisted driving on urban roads and highways.
Meanwhile, BYD’s premium brand Denza is also intensively expanding its SUV market presence. The Denza N8L flash charging edition has arrived at Denza stores nationwide and is expected to launch in June.
To date, the large SUV has reached 450 stores across 174 cities nationwide, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen.
The model began pre-sales on April 10, with a pre-sales price range of 350,000 yuan to 400,000 yuan.
The Denza N8L flash charging edition also comes standard with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. The hybrid model is powered by a dedicated 2.0T high-efficiency engine for plug-in hybrids, with a combined three-motor power of 560 kilowatts, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 3 seconds.
The new vehicle is equipped with the e3 technology and the DiSus-A intelligent air body control system, supporting all-scenario intelligent detour and U-turn capabilities.
Its voice system is integrated with the DeepSeek large language model, supporting all-scenario intelligent voice in-car payments and dialect recognition. These premium features are expected to help BYD maintain its edge in a fiercely competitive market.
The successful pre-sales of the Datang EV and the upcoming launch of the Denza N8L are expected to help BYD achieve a further recovery in sales. The introduction of these flagship models comes as the company’s production capacity bottlenecks gradually ease.
In addition, BYD teased its first D-segment flagship sedan from the Dynasty lineup earlier today, a model that could be named Dahan (or Great Han).
BYD sold 383,453 NEVs wholesale in May, up a marginal 0.26% from a year earlier, ending a previous eight-month streak of declining sales.
BYD released official camouflage photos of the Dynasty lineup’s first D-class flagship sedan, which could be named Dahan.
