    • The existing N8L is offered only as a plug-in hybrid with flash charging; the EV version is expected to use BYD’s latest flash charging technology.
    • The N8L EV will feature a 208-liter frunk, while key details including pricing and range have yet to be announced.

BYD’s (HKEX: 1211) premium brand Denza will officially launch an all-electric version of the N8L in September, adding a new powertrain option to the large 6-seat SUV.

Denza general manager Li Hui announced the launch plan on Weibo on Saturday, without disclosing the new model’s pricing, range or powertrain specifications.

An official poster shows that the N8L EV will feature a 208-liter powered frunk, targeting families seeking additional storage space.

Li said the frunk can hold camping or beach gear and has a covered drain that can be rinsed clean, making it suitable for storing items covered in sand or dirt.

Denza’s posters for the N8L EV:

The N8L was previously offered only as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). It was first launched in October 2025 with a starting price of 299,800 yuan.

Denza replaced the original version with a flash charging one in June. The updated model starts at 319,800 yuan ($47,160), 20,000 yuan more than the original version.

The flash charging N8L PHEV uses an 800-volt high-voltage architecture and a 75.26-kWh second-generation Blade Battery, delivering a CLTC battery-only range of 430 kilometers.

The vehicle can charge from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes at a dedicated Denza flash charging station, according to the brand.

Denza has yet to confirm the battery and charging specifications of the N8L EV. However, as BYD expands the use of its second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology, the new version is expected to adopt those technologies as well.

The N8L PHEV measures 5,200 millimeters in length, 1,999 millimeters in width and 1,820 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 millimeters. It has a 2+2+2 6-seat layout.

The current flash charging version also features the e3 vehicle control technology, the DiSus-A body control system and the LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye 5.0 driver-assistance system.

Adding an EV version will broaden the N8L’s potential customer base and give Denza more options in China’s fiercely competitive large family SUV market.

Denza’s sales have recently begun to recover. The brand sold 19,196 vehicles in July, up 68.76% year-on-year but down 5.68% from June, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Denza sold 85,737 vehicles in the first 7 months of the year, down 6.00% year-on-year. The decline narrowed significantly from 16.65% in the first 6 months.

The N8L EV would also mark BYD’s latest move to expand its flash charging vehicle lineup. The company had built 10,000 flash charging stations in China as of August 28 and plans to double that number by year-end.

Denza said the Z9S has the longest range of any mass-produced all-electric model, breaking the 1,036-km record previously held by the Denza Z9GT.
