Honda is starting to get very serious about its electrified future. After shelving its plans to introduce a new EV platform, instead focusing on hybridizing most of its lineup, the Japanese automaker was just caught trademarking a new brand name in the United Kingdom and Europe. We expect the name to show up just about everywhere in Honda’s future lineup, ranging from the pint-sized HR-V to the rough-and-tumble Pilot TrailSport. Details about the new hybrid system are scarce, but it sounds like it should be a bit of a changeup from Honda’s current offerings, based off the new trademark: DualPower…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. The 2027 Jeep Cherokee has finally earned its “Trail-Rated” badge with the introduction of a Trailhawk. Once upon a time, Jeeps held virtually indefensible positions at the top of their respective segments when it came to off-road capability. These days, the 4×4-adjacent space is much more crowded, and simply wearing a Jeep badge isn’t a guarantee of automatic victory anymore. Given that the new Cherokee shares its basic formula with the model it replaced,…

It’s a quirk of the release calendar that when Vivo’s X Fold 6 launched in China this June, it was just another foldable. Now that it’s ready for its global release, the size and aspect ratio feel oddly old-fashioned.The X Fold 6 is much the same size as Vivo’s previous foldables, and most other foldables that launched before both Apple and Samsung pivoted to a shorter, wider form factor with the Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo. The 6.51-inch cover display is in the standard smartphone 20:9 aspect ratio, opening to an almost square 8.02-inch panel. The crease is a…
Metra’s diesel-engined commuter trains are familiar sights in and around Chicago, and so is the smell of spent diesel that surrounds them – but a new battery-electric FLIRT locomotive from Stadler is about to change all that, and it’s set to arrive this week. Officially dubbed the Flinker Leichter Innovativer Regional-Triebzug (FLIRT), the German-designed battery-electric locomotive promises a (wait for it …) fast, light, and innovative rapid transit solution that drops right into Chicago’s regional rail system, replacing aging diesel locomotives along the Beverly branch of Metra’s Rock Island Line between La Salle St. and Blue Island, where the trains…
So will Newt Gingrich, for some reason. Jeremy Christensen/Getty Images The US Department of Defense announced a new initiative that it says will identify the technological needs for future wars. According to the commissioning note from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Project Meridian “will study the battlefields of the future, identify which weapons and technologies warfighters will need to harness to dominate in these environments, and propose actionable solutions to start developing, testing and fielding these capabilities such that America will have overmatch for the 21st century and beyond.” The endeavor will be led by Elon Musk,…
Super SUVs are a love-them or hate-them deal. On one hand, the Lamborghini Urus provides all the theater, performance, and fun of a traditional Lambo supercar with a more practical shape, but on the other hand, it doesn’t look quite as sleek or poster-car-worthy as some of the company’s other offerings. But regardless of your opinion on the Urus, it’s done wonders for the brand’s bottom line, reeling in a wave of new customers that the Raging Bull has poached from rival stables. Speaking to CarBuzz at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year, Stefano Cossalter, Urus Product Line…
Automotive Range Rover is wasting little time expanding its electric lineup. Following the arrival of the full-size Range Rover Electric, the 2028 Range Rover Sport Electric is preparing to bring the same battery-powered formula to a slightly smaller, more athletic package. Instead of dramatically reinventing the Sport, Range Rover appears to be sticking closely to what already makes the SUV appealing, adding serious electric performance while preserving its familiar combination of luxury, capability, and understated design. Power comes from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 542 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, drawing energy from a sizable 119-kWh battery…
Aston Martin’s DBX is already a refined and powerful crossover. In 2025, we declared that the DBX707 version removes any doubt about its luxury credentials and is as close to flawless as we can expect. Then came the 2026 DBX S, lightening the SUV and taking the power level to 717 horsepower (up from the DBX 707’s 696 horses). The only fault we could pick out is that the tailgate lifts a bit too slowly. Now, Aston Martin has announced the DBX GT, claiming it delivers the ultimate in luxury and refinement. The Focus Here Is Effortless, Refined Performance Aston…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture.
