It’s been two years, 32 months, 975 days, nearly 25-thousand hours — or simply far too long — since I’ve written anything for Stance Is Everything. Considering how often I used to create in this space, admitting it’s been so long feels more than a little embarrassing. If there’s any saving grace to be had, it’s that in that time I never dropped my digital pen or stopped going to events. My passion for automotive culture is still here, and as healthy as ever. While gone, I lent my literary and photography talents — along with endless pop culture references…

In 2023, what was then still called Twitter, open-sourced at least portions of the code that decided what it served up in your feed. But that GitHub repository is hopelessly out of date, with the vast majority of the files appearing to be from the initial upload three years ago. Elon Musk says that in seven days, he will open-source X’s new algorithm and finally give people a peek behind the curtain and possibly a technical explanation as to why your feed is 90 percent rage bait.Elon has always made promises to open-source parts of X, and has followed through…

Car buying habits in the UK are often misunderstood. While most adults have access to a vehicle, only a relatively small percentage of the population actually buys a car in any given year. Understanding how population size, ownership levels, and buying behaviour interact helps explain why used cars dominate the market and why car purchases are usually planned events rather than frequent decisions. This article explains UK car buying habits in clear terms using population data and ownership trends. UK Adult Population Overview The UK population continues to grow steadily and is projected to reach around 70 million by 2026.…

For a long time, the Porsche Cayenne has been the default benchmark in the performance-SUV world. Across its various high-performance trims, the Cayenne has long defined the segment’s balance benchmark. It’s the car that other brands measure themselves against, the safe answer when someone asks which fast SUV does it all best. Balanced, beautifully engineered, and backed by Porsche’s motorsport pedigree, the Cayenne earned its reputation the hard way. But benchmarks only stay benchmarks until someone comes along and challenges them. Quietly — and without the same level of fanfare — Audi has done precisely that. And the vehicle doing…

Heading into BMW’s factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the tour guide asked if it was my first time in a car factory. Errr, no. Working for Autocar, I’ve spent a fair chunk of time donning ill-fitting high-viz jackets and other safety kit before traipsing through all manner of industrial facilities. The guide nodded, then asked: “Do you ever get bored of them?” I wasn’t being polite when I answered: “Absolutely not.” Seriously, what’s not to love about a car factory? Car plants are mind-bogglingly complex, vast operations, and no matter how many times you see one, it gives you fresh appreciation for this…

Automotive Nissan rolled into the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon with what looks like a light touch update for the Z, the kind you might miss if you only glance at it walking by. But that is sort of the point. The Z already nails the retro-modern vibe, so Nissan focused on sharpening the details instead of rewriting the whole design. The new highlight color is Unryu Green, a fresh take on the classic Grand Prix Green from early Z history, and it suits the car in a way that makes you wonder why it took this long to…

It can be easy to see a person selling a car as little more than an obstacle between you and your potential new purchase. However, just as it is as a rule in general life, treating people with respect is everything when buying a used car privately.  I know I’m not your parent, but you’ll have to forgive me because this column doubles up as a lecture on good manners. So why exactly am I taking the moral high ground? Well, after a family member informed me of a recent car-selling experience, it got me thinking about how we treat…

There have been rumors of Ferrari rebooting the F40 for years, but it hasn’t happened barring a tribute based on the Ferrari 296 GTB. But that doesn’t stop people asking “what if?” In this case, digital artist Martin Tyminski (Fully Leaded) has gone to town and come up with a render of what a 2026 Ferrari F40 either could, or depending on your opinion, should look like.
