Automotive Ferrari has officially entered the electric age with the unveiling of the all-new 2027 Ferrari Luce, a four-door EV that may end up being one of the most polarizing vehicles the company has ever produced. With over 1,000 horsepower, cutting-edge technology, and a design philosophy unlike anything to ever wear the Prancing Horse badge, the Luce is either a bold leap into the future or a complete identity crisis depending on who you ask. Let’s start with the elephant in the room because there’s no avoiding it. The design is controversial. Extremely controversial. Ferrari is known for…

Ferrari (RACE) shares dropped 6.27% in Milan trading on Tuesday, falling to €290.55 and wiping out roughly £3 billion in market cap a day after Maranello unveiled the Luce, its first all-electric car. The reaction online was overwhelmingly negative — the design got compared to a Honda Accord, an Apple Store minivan, and a luxury toaster. Investors clearly took the temperature of the internet and ran. But we’ve seen this exact movie before — when Ford put the Mustang badge on an electric SUV. A Mustang Mach-E moment for Maranello When Ford unveiled the Mustang Mach-E in November 2019 at…

We’ll start in the obvious place here. What does 1140bhp and 1106lb ft feel like, out on the road, in an electric SUV from one of the world’s most prestigious performance brands? Well, if you just get in and drive it about in Comfort or Normal mode, it feels incredibly civilised. Almost zen-like, actually. There’s tyre noise from the enormous 22in Michelin tyres but almost no motor whine; wind noise is subdued; and you breeze along, trying not to be tempted by the ‘push to pass’ button. Activate launch control, mash the brake pedal and then mat the accelerator, and the launch control mode activates…

One of the best design elements of the Vision BMW Alpina Concept car, revealed earlier this month, was its tiny shark-fin-style door handles. Now the CarBuzz research team has found a patent filed with the USPTO that shows BMW could bring them to production on a real car. Without the sacrifices that have caused problems with similar handles from Volvo and Ford. Patent filings do not guarantee the use of such technology in future vehicles and are often used exclusively as a means of protecting intellectual property. Such a filing cannot be construed as confirmation of production intent. Even Door…

Service advisors are more likely to recommend and sell repairs they understand, making targeted sales training a powerful tool for shops and parts manufacturers, according to a repair and service leader. The role of service writers has changed over time, observed Jeff Cox, executive director of the Automotive Maintenance & Repair Association (AMRA). While technicians or former techs may have once dealt directly with customers at the front desk, dedicated service advisors who come from customer service backgrounds are becoming more common, and they lack the deep technical background. Speaking at the MEMA Aftermarket Technology Conference, he said service writer…

Alfa Romeo will launch a new family hatchback to rival the Volkswagen Golf in the next few years – its first since the Giulietta was axed in 2020. The new C-segment car will be based on parent company Stellantis’s new STLA One architecture – which it will share with the same-sized, next-generation Peugeot 308 and Vauxhall Astra. Confirmation of the new hatchback comes following the Stellantis investor day presentation last…
