Automotive Just when it looked like General Motors might finally be reconsidering its controversial decision to remove Apple and Android Auto from future electric vehicles, the situation has taken another turn. In our recent Automotive Addicts article, we covered what appeared to be a meaningful change in direction after GM revealed a new infotainment experience for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra that allows CarPlay and Android Auto to work alongside native vehicle functions. According to follow-up reporting, however, that setup applies to the gasoline-powered versions of those trucks and should not be interpreted as GM reversing…

ES9 cumulative deliveries are expected to reach 30,000 this week, after hitting 20,000 on August 8. The ES9 and ES8 together accounted for more than 80% of Nio’s main-brand deliveries in August, making large electric SUVs a pillar of its sales. Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) is expected to deliver its 30,000th ES9 flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle) this week, less than 4 months after deliveries of the premium electric model began. Yang Bo, Nio’s head of user operations, shared the expectation on…
Approximately a year and a half ago, Nissan announced that it would finally release a new generation of Skyline, and we’ve been waiting anxiously to see it ever since. The current generation of Skyline (and its Infiniti Q50 twin), have been around mostly unchanged for more than a decade. The long wait is nearly over, as Nissan will reveal the car this December. This Isn’t Just A Rumor, Nissan’s CEO Announced The Event The news comes from an interview between a reporter from…

Last week, GM announced a new software experience for its upcoming Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks, including a new look for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the popular phone mirroring systems that the automaker made a big deal about removing from its electric vehicles in 2023.Naturally, this led to some confusion about whether GM was “bringing back” CarPlay and Android Auto to its vehicles. Yahoo Finance reported it that way, calling it an “about-face” by the automaker, while Apple Insider’s headline boasted that GM “cave[d]” on its decision to remove the interface from its gas-powered vehicles. Even The Verge’s…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. For all of the news that China’s car industry makes for breakthroughs in, say, battery tech, it’s their attention to detail that personally impresses me the most. Like how Zeekr, one of the country’s leading automakers that also happens to be affiliated with Volvo through their shared corporate parent, Geely, went to the trouble to re-engineer the foam used in the seats of its minivan, the Zeekr 009. And the company is so proud…

The primary culprits for this massive price increase are the Mac Studio’s large amount of high-end memory and storage, “RAMageddon” pricing, hedging and Apple’s usual insistence on high profit margins. Apple said so itself when it first bumped MacBook prices back in June: “We’ve never seen component prices increase this much, this quickly. We’ve worked hard to absorb these costs and delay price increases for as long as possible, but the current environment has made that unsustainable.” Let’s start with the RAM, or what Apple calls “unified memory,” because it’s shared between the CPU and GPU. With 1.2TB/s bandwidth when fully…
A Tesla Optimus humanoid robot on display at a Tesla store in Beijing, April 2026. Credit: Tesla Several Chinese suppliers have already secured Optimus orders and will start production soon after passing the audits. The audits cover Ningbo, Hangzhou and Shanghai, and mostly involve existing suppliers to Tesla’s auto business. Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) humanoid robot team is auditing supply chain companies in China’s Yangtze River Delta region, and several of them had already secured orders before the audits, The Paper reported on Monday, citing a person familiar with the industry chain. The team began factory audits last week at companies…
The BMW 3.0 CSL is among the most legendary shapes in the German brand’s history. Based on the already beautiful 3.0 CSi, the CSL was a lightweight homologation special that the brand built to go racing in Europe. Aesthetically, an aggressive front fascia and tall rear wing gave the machine an eye-catching appearance. The mean look earned the car the nickname Batmobile. The Italian company Riverti Automobili is now aiming to revive the CSL by blending the original’s eye-catching styling with modern underpinnings from a BMW M2. Teaser images give us a great idea of what to expect. The Riverti…
