The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. With the 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid arriving the Japanese automaker is kicking off its turnaround plan. With it comes design and philosophy changes. In an exclusive interview with The Drive, Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer for Nissan North America, Ponz Pandikuthira said the automaker is done with piano black trim and chrome is out too. Addressing the lack of shiny piano-black trim in the new 2027 Rogue Hybrid Pandikuthira said, “Definitely consumer driven. It…
A study of millions of UK vehicles shows that electric cars stay on the road longer than petrol cars, and the gap widens as mileage increases. With electric cars being a relatively new technology, many people have been skeptical of what their long-term reliability would look like. Despite EVs having fewer moving parts which suggests less opportunity for failure, fear of the new still keeps people worrying. But electric cars aren’t really that new anymore. The oldest EVs of the modern era have now been on the road for nearly two decades, so we’ve got some data now. And it…
Peloton is refreshing its machines for fall 2026, and this time it’s going all-in on treadmills with three different Tread models aimed at three different tax brackets/ types of runner. I briefly got to see the Tread Vision in person during IFA in Berlin, but Peloton didn’t have the $2,195 Tread Flex on display then. While the two pricier models (the $3,495 Tread Vision and $6,695 Tread+ Vision) may tempt more road-hardened runners thanks to their bigger screens, sturdier running decks and new running analysis feature, it’s the Tread Flex that’s the most interesting proposition for rookies like me. The…
New August data from CarGurus shows the Ford F‑150 and RAM 1500 remained Canada’s top‑selling used vehicles, with SUVs and crossovers making up half of the top 10. Seven of the 10 best‑sellers posted lower average listing prices than a year ago, including the Honda CR‑V, Honda Civic, Ford Escape, Mazda CX‑5 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The F‑150 and Toyota RAV4 saw small increases, while the Nissan Rogue was flat. “The F‑150 and RAM 1500 continue to lead the rankings, while SUVs and crossovers make up half of August’s top 10,” said David Undercoffler, head of consumer insights at CarGurus.…
With EVs not being adopted as quickly as before, but customers still showing interest in reducing fuel consumption (especially as gas prices skyrocket), automakers are looking into other ways to combine combustion engines with electric assistance, or vice versa. One of those that’s being bandied about is the extended-range EV, in which a gas generator provides electricity once the battery has drained, offering some flexibility for customers. The latest company to announce the addition of this kind of powertrain is Toyota, but only for one specific market. Toyota Is Planning 400,000 EREVs A Year By 2028 Even though the US…
In the beginning, there was nothing, then came steam, gasoline, diesel, forced induction, hybridization, hydrogen, full electrification, and so on. Every step felt like a massive leap in human ingenuity. While the EV hype was strong for a few years, automakers have rolled it back as consumers discovered the lack of infrastructure, severe depreciation, and costs associated with replacing expensive batteries. That said, hybrids are the way to many consumers’ hearts. Toyota seems to have figured that out – models like the Camry and Sienna are only available with hybrid powertrains now. However, Honda is falling behind. Only a few…
The 2026 Honda Accord Hybrid is available in four trim levels covering the most efficient midsize sedan Honda has ever offered, and buyers who arrive with invoice benchmarks consistently pay less than those who walk in without them. Honda’s own build-and-price tool confirms the Accord Hybrid starts at $33,795 including the $1,195 destination charge for the Sport Hybrid, with EX-L Hybrid at $35,095, Sport-L Hybrid at $35,495, and Touring Hybrid at $39,495. The most important spec in the entire Accord Hybrid lineup is a single MPG number: the EX-L Hybrid achieves 51 city and 48 combined MPG ,…
A BYD Da Tang EV on display at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026. Credit: CnEVPost. BYD is recruiting more than 8,000 workers across multiple facilities at its Xi’an production base. The production hub is BYD’s largest, with annual capacity of 1.5 million vehicles. BYD (HKEX: 1211) is hiring thousands of workers at its largest manufacturing hub, signaling that the world’s biggest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker is ramping up production following upgrades to its assembly lines. Several local agencies, including the Xi’an Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, recently posted recruitment notices for BYD’s Xi’an operations on…
The Drive 🤝 your inbox. Every weekday The Daily Brief wraps up the biggest stories and our exclusive reporting on the auto industry and car culture. The first major play in Nissan’s turnaround plan is about to take place as the automaker chops its product portfolio from 56 models to 45, brings back the Xterra, and refocuses on trying to be exciting again. But first, the bread and butter. On Monday, the 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid formally debuted with a standard hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive along with an estimated 40 mpg fuel economy rating for $37,065 including a $1,575…
Toyota is the latest carmaker with plans to launch an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), expected to arrive next year. Toyota will launch its first extended-range EV in 2027 Following Hyundai, Ford, Stellantis, Nissan and several other automakers, Toyota is the latest major automaker to join the global EREV race. The EREV is Toyota’s fifth “electrified” vehicle, alongside battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), hybrids (HEVs), and fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). Extended-range EVs use a gas engine to charge the battery when it gets low, extending the driving range while using mostly electric power to drive the wheels. Advertisement -…
