The current Dodge Durango is entering its 16th model year (!), but it still has plenty of fans thanks to its attractive styling, muscle-car personality, and spacious interior. Although there aren’t any significant changes on the horizon for the three-row SUV, Dodge will still attempt to keep things a little fresher via a new color scheme, previewed in concept form at Roadkill Nights 2026.
The admittedly minor cosmetic changes include the third all-new exterior paint job for the Durango this year, as well as a special interior color that’ll only be available on the 710-horsepower SRT Hellcat.

Dodge Revives A Classic James Bond Gadget – Sort Of
The new hue is a light metallic gray called Smokescreen, borrowing the name of the August concept that previewed it. The cool hue is a little bit fresher and more unique than Destroyer Gray, already available on the Durango, allowing some of the SUV’s other design features – like available red-painted brake calipers and badging – to pop a little bit more. Smokescreen will be a $595 option on every Durango trim level, ranging from the base, V8-powered GT Hemi AWD to the top-spec SRT Hellcat Jailbreak.
The other cosmetic addition for 2027, however, will only come on the flagship. The Smokescreen concept also previewed distinctive new Petrol Blue leather, which gets added to the Jailbreak’s diverse color portfolio that also includes red, caramel, and brown seats; contrasting seat belts; unique exterior badging options; and even customizable brake caliper colors. In fact, with the arrival of Petrol Blue upholstery, Dodge says the SRT Jailbreak has more than 20 million distinct personalization possibilities – insane.

What Other Changes Did Dodge Make To The 2027 Durango?
Mechanical and functional changes to the current-model-year SUV are pretty minimal, although the Pentastar V6 has disappeared from the lineup, with the 360-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V8 now standard on the GT model, with the R/T receiving a 475-hp 6.4-liter V8 and the SRT Hellcat carrying over with the blown 6.2.
Cosmetically, the Durango is all but identical to the 2021 model that brought a slightly revised exterior and modernized dashboard to the SUV family. In addition to Smokescreen, the 2027 Durango also offers a dark, sultry shade of blue called After Dark, as well as vivid Redeye paint that wouldn’t look out of place on an old Viper SRT-10.

That said, the latest Dodge SUV is still pretty much the same as it’s always been, but that isn’t stopping buyers at all. Through the end of September, more than 61,000 Durangos found their way into new homes, an increase of 13 percent over last year. In fact, the muscular SUV is on track to have its best sales year since 2005, proving that consumers really respond to the cheap V8 power that the Durango offers.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:
Despite the Durango’s age – it’s the second-oldest current-generation vehicle on the market right now, beaten only by the Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana twins – the SUV’s popularity isn’t really a mystery. A platform that was astoundingly robust in 2013 is still pretty impressive today, and the Dodge’s 8,700-pound towing capacity puts it in contention with full-size SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition. Pundits may snicker at the Durango’s long, long lifecycle, but it’s very profitable and doesn’t show any signs of slowing popularity, a winning combination for any automaker.
Dodge’s minor cosmetic tweaks and new paint colors may not amount to much in the grand scheme of things, but we’re sure Durango customers are happy to see some shiny new choices at their dealers nevertheless.
