Acura is using Monterey Car Week to give us a much clearer idea of where the brand is headed next, and the Nexera Vision concept makes quite the statement. Created as a pure design study rather than a production-bound supercar, the dramatically low coupe introduces styling themes Acura intends to spread across its future lineup. More importantly, this is not simply a wild concept destined to disappear after the show circuit. Elements of its design will reach showrooms, beginning with the next-generation RDX Hybrid expected for the 2028 model year.
The timing is important for Acura. The company entered 2026 with a considerably different product roadmap, one that placed greater emphasis on fully electric vehicles. Changing market conditions and Honda’s broader shift toward hybrids have since reshaped those plans. The upcoming RDX will play a major role in that strategy as Acura’s first SUV to use Honda’s next-generation two-motor hybrid system. With that transition underway, the Nexera Vision gives Acura an opportunity to establish a fresh visual identity at the same time.
Designed at Acura’s California studio under creative director Yasutake Tsuchida, the Nexera looks every bit like the sort of concept car expected to turn heads during Monterey Car Week. Its Matte Titanium body sits incredibly low over 22-inch centerlock wheels, while butterfly-style doors, forged carbon-fiber accents, an active rear spoiler and an aggressive diffuser pile on the drama. The proportions push the visual weight toward the rear, and the windshield follows the angle of the nose so closely that the entire car looks shaped around the idea of slicing through the air.
Its most fascinating detail may be Acura’s so-called phantom lighting. When switched off, the headlights and taillights essentially vanish into the surrounding bodywork. Turn them on and the lighting suddenly glows through surfaces that moments earlier appeared completely solid. The concept-car technology may be a long way from production, but the shape of the lighting is far more relevant. Two inward-pointing LED elements form an arrow-like interpretation of Acura’s “A” emblem, creating a signature that should become much more recognizable on upcoming production models.
Acura has already provided a hint of how that treatment can work on something you might actually park in your garage. The Hybrid SUV Prototype revealed earlier this year is widely understood to preview the fourth-generation RDX, and it uses a more realistic interpretation of the Nexera’s lighting and design themes. That connection makes the Nexera more interesting than the typical auto-show fantasy. The coupe itself may never receive a license plate, but pieces of what we are seeing here could become familiar sights at Acura dealerships within only a couple of years.
The interior takes the same futuristic approach without becoming excessively complicated. A single curved display sits in front of the driver, physical switches are limited, and the seats are mounted directly to the floor to create an extremely low seating position. Instead of moving the seats, the steering wheel and pedals adjust around the driver. Leather, Alcantara, gloss-black trim and recycled aluminum provide the expected concept-car materials, while subtle pink accents in the ambient lighting and seatbelts give the otherwise serious cabin an unexpected bit of personality.
Perhaps the most encouraging thing about the Acura Nexera Vision is that it suggests the company wants its next generation of vehicles to look unmistakably like Acuras. The upcoming RDX Hybrid will be the first real test of how successfully this dramatic concept-car vocabulary translates to a practical luxury SUV, but there is plenty of potential here. If Acura can carry the Nexera’s clean surfaces, distinctive lighting and athletic proportions into future models such as the Integra and eventually another NSX, the concept could end up representing much more than a spectacular Monterey showpiece. It could mark the beginning of a considerably more confident chapter for the brand.
