To say that something in the low six-figure range is affordable, well, it depends on what we’re talking about. $107,000 is steep for a mid-range luxury sedan, it’s more than most of us should be spending on a pickup truck. But for a supercar? That’s a bargain, and it’s cheaper than an entry-level Porsche 911.
We’re talking about the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport with the Track Performance Package equipped, which comes out to a total MSRP of $106,695, a $28,805 savings on a Porsche 911 Carrera with no options. Here’s how the math shakes out.
The Corvette Is More Affordable, But They’re Both Worth The Asking Price

Before delivery costs, a 2027 Chevrolet Corvette with the Track Pack may save you $28,805 on the cost of a Porsche 911, but let’s be honest, $135,500 for a Porsche 911 isn’t a terrible deal, either.
The Grand Sport starts at an MSRP of $86,000. Add in the $20,695 Track Performance Package, and that brings our total up to $106,695. That’s $28,805 less than the most affordable Porsche 911, before we add in delivery charges. Chevy will deliver your ‘Vette for $2,495, while Porsche will bring you your 911 for $2,350. That brings our totals up to $109,190 for the Corvette, or $137,850 for the 911, making for a total difference of $28,650 before taxes, titling, financing, and so on.
The Track Performance Package Will Up Your Game

If you skip the Track Pack, we’re looking at a difference of nearly $50,000. So we have to ask, what’s in the performance package that has it costing about the same as an entry-level hatchback?

Going into more detail on some of these features, the Brembo brakes feature six-piston calipers up front, and four-piston calipers in the back. The carbon kit includes front splitter and rockers, and the quad exhaust is a performance enhancer but it also just looks and sounds awesome.
The traction management system may be the real draw here, with six settings of torque reduction and brake intervention to fine-tune your track-day experience. Standard features in the Grand Sport include a 12.7-inch touchscreen and an HD rear-vision camera. 14-speaker Bose premium sound is optional, but this is all just bells and whistles on a car like this. You’re not spending $109,190 on a Corvette to listen to the radio.
Porsche Will Have You Paying Nearly $200,000 To Match The Grand Sport’s Specs

To get an idea of why a Grand Sport with the Track Pack is worth $109,190, it really comes down to the specs and the experience of driving the car. To be sure, this is supercar territory. The ‘Vette pairs a dual-clutch eight-speed auto-shift manual transmission to a naturally-aspirated 6.7-liter V8 producing 535 hp in rear-wheel drive. The car clears 60 mph in just 2.75 seconds, with a 124 mph quarter-mile reported at 10.95 seconds, according to Chevrolet.
An entry-level Porsche 911 is no slouch, with a rear-mounted twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six producing 388 hp, and clearing 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. It’s rear-wheel drive, with quarter-mile times recorded as low as 11.7 seconds at around 120 mph.
There’s more to a high-end sports car than just numbers. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a Porsche 911, but then, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of a Corvette with its most powerful-ever NA engine, either.
Corvette Will Get You Over 500 Horsepower For $74,000 Less

The closest match to the Grand Sport, in the current Porsche 911 lineup, would be a Carrera GTS, producing 532 hp for a 2.9-second 0-60 mph takeoff. This model will cost you $181,000, plus a $2,350 delivery fee, for $183,350 total. After taxes, titling, and so on, that’s easily a $200,000 purchase. Depending on how you plan to pay for it, interest could easily have you paying a quarter-million for the privilege of driving a 911 that’s almost as powerful as a Corvette that costs half that.
Assuming you’re paying cash, and we can worry about all the other fees later, you’re going to be spending an extra $74,305 to bring your Porsche up to speed with a comparable Chevy. In terms of what you’re spending for comparable power, this has Chevrolet selling you power at a price of $199 per horse. Meanwhile, Porsche’s ponies are priced at $340 per horse.
Again, there’s more to the experience of driving a premium sports car than how many horses you’re getting for the price. You can’t reduce a purchase like this to pure numbers any more than you can reduce your dream home to how many bedrooms it has. Be that as it may, the Corvette is a much cheaper path to horsepower in the 500+ range.

You could take that $29,000 you saved and spend it on a brand-new Buick Envista or Toyota Corolla Cross, but when we talk about the cost of a dream car, we often gloss over the cost of ownership. Simply keeping a 500-horse Corvette or Porsche 911 can cost you more in a year than you spent on your first car in total.
So, you could treat yourself to a brand-new daily-driver to get you from work to home on weekdays, or, you could keep driving whatever you’ve got in your garage right now, and spend that $29,000 on track fees and tires. A day at the track might cost you around $500 or so, depending on where you’re at, and a new set of tires comes in at around $2,500, and lasts up to 500 miles before replacement, assuming aggressive track use.
So if you’re putting 100 miles on your car every track day, you’re replacing your tires every five visits, and that’ll have you spending around $1,000 for each trip to the asphalt. Go twice a month for a year, and you’ll still have $5,000 left come Christmas.
