Shangjie, a brand jointly developed by Huawei and SAIC Motor (SSE: 600104), launched the upgraded H5 SUV (sport utility vehicle) on Thursday with a starting price of 159,800 yuan ($23,510).
It marks a significant update for the Shangjie brand since it rolled out its first model in September 2025, with the starting price kept unchanged from its predecessor.
The starting price is 10,000 yuan, or 5.89 percent, lower than the earlier pre-sales price of 169,800 yuan.
In the Chinese market, it is common practice for launch prices to come in below pre-sales prices, a move aimed at attracting early buyers.
The updated H5 retains both extended-range and all-electric powertrain options. The extended-range Pro version starts at 159,800 yuan, while the Max+ version starts at 179,800 yuan.
The all-electric version comes in four trims, including Pro, Pro Long Range, Max+ and Max+ Long Range, with starting prices of 165,800 yuan, 179,800 yuan, 185,800 yuan and 199,800 yuan, respectively.
The new model’s core selling point lies in its smart driving capability. Higher-end versions feature Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4.1 system. The system is equipped with a 192-channel LiDAR, providing functions such as end-to-end navigation assistance and driver incapacitation assistance.
The extended-range version offers a combined range of up to 1,360 kilometers on a full tank and full charge. The all-electric version is fitted with an 80-kWh battery pack, with a CLTC all-electric range of up to 655 kilometers.
The new model adds front-seat massage, a near-zero-gravity stretch function for the front passenger, as well as ventilated and heated rear seats.
It also adds a 15.6-inch movable screen that supports four-way adjustment. Ambient lighting has been increased to 10 zones with 256 colors as standard across all trims.
It further adds a W-HUD head-up display that supports a steering assistance imaging function.
To boost sales, the company has rolled out a limited-time promotion, with customers who place orders before August 4 eligible for benefits worth up to 58,583 yuan.
Shangjie has also produced a batch of vehicles in advance for popular configurations, allowing for delivery in as soon as one to two weeks.
Shangjie is the fifth automotive brand under Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance). In September 2025, the H5 was launched as Shangjie’s first model.
The H5’s main competitors include BYD’s (HKEX: 1211) Song series and Xpeng’s (NYSE: XPEV) G6.
The brand is rapidly expanding its product lineup. In March this year, Shangjie began pre-sales of the Z7 coupe and the Z7T shooting brake. The Z7 coupe carries a pre-sales price of 229,800 yuan, taking aim at Xiaomi’s (HKEX: 1810) SU7.
The Shangjie Z7’s pre-sales price is just 100 yuan lower than the updated Xiaomi SU7’s pre-sales price, signaling fierce competition for customers.
