Audi’s Off-Road Allroad Take Five
2027 Audi A6 AllroadAudi
This is the fifth-generation of the A6 Allroad. It debuted in 1999 as one of the first lifted wagons that arrived ahead of the SUV takeover of, well, nearly the entire vehicle market. The Allroad stands out from standard A6 models – literally and figuratively – thanks to an extra 1.3-inches of ground clearance for getting down rough roads. If the roads are a little rougher than you had expected, the adaptive air suspension has a two-inch range of height adjustment.
Every A6 Allroad has had wider fender flares to hide wider and more rough road-capable tires, but this is the first time Audi has given it a full widebody kit. The Allroad is looking very aggro with shades of RS6 attitude thanks to that extra four inches of fender width, and it should even help improve stability on steep side slopes thanks to the wider track that comes with it.

The World’s First Premium Crossover Is Only 25 Years Old
Crossovers are big business in 2025, but all things have to start somewhere. The first premium crossover appeared a full 25 years ago.
This time around, the A6 Allroad also gets all-wheel steering. The rear tires can turn opposite the fronts to help make it more maneuverable. Sure, it sounds like that’s for getting around trees and rocks, but really it’s about parking and tight urban turns. The steering also works to improve highway speed stability.
Diesel And PHEV, But Both Have Loads Of Space
2027 Audi A6 AllroadAudi
There are two new powertrains under the Allroad’s hood, and thanks to one of them, the wagon can tow up to 5,500 pounds. That won’t be offered in the US, though, because it’s a V6 diesel. The 3.0-liter engine makes 295 hp and 428 pound-feet, boosted by 23 hp from its mild hybrid system.
The other engine is a 2.0-liter gas four-cylinder with PHEV assist. It makes 362 hp and 369 lb-ft, and thanks to a 20.7 kWh battery, can travel up to 59 miles (WLTP) on a charge. This is the one that we expect for the US, though Audi hasn’t confirmed it.
On the inside, the Allroad is almost identical to the RS6. There are some changes, like a lack of RS seats, but the trio of screens and Audi’s virtual cockpit setup are all there. Audi has added ChatGPT to the infotainment system, and it can help you find new destinations or even answer owner’s manual questions.
With the rear seats up, the PHEV Allroad will hold 14.3 cubic feet of whatever you want to bring with you, while the diesel holds a bit more thanks to a lower floor. Drop the 40:20:40 split rows and you get 53 cubes. If that sounds small, it’s because it’s the EU figure. That only measures up to the bottom of the glass. In reality, you can pack in nearly double that if you need to.

Audi USA has confirmed that the Allroad is coming to this side of the Atlantic, and it will go on sale in 2027. We’ll need to wait for more information than that. It’s on sale from June 18 in Europe; pricing in Germany starts from 77,300 euros. That’s about 6,000 euros more than the non-Allroad Avant with the same engine.
CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:
If you want cargo space but don’t want an SUV, there aren’t many choices left. BMW has the M5 Touring and Mercedes-Benz has the E-Class, but even Volvo is out of the longroof game. Audi has been competing with the M5 Touring via the RS6 Avant, and with Benz through the Allroad. This latest shows a strong commitment to both directions, and an alternative to the sea of SUVs in this luxury space.
