Tesla renames FSD again in China ahead of software roll-out

    • Tesla changed the name of its FSD feature to Tesla Assisted Driving, saying the function will be “available later.”
    • The renaming follows Tesla’s announcement on X that FSD Supervised is available in markets including China.

(A screenshot from Tesla’s Chinese website shows that Tesla has renamed its ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) feature once again.)

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has once again adjusted the naming of its ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) in the Chinese market, hinting that the real launch of its FSD (Full Self-Driving) software here could be imminent.

The company’s Chinese website changed the Chinese name of the FSD feature to “Tesla Assisted Driving” (特斯拉辅助驾驶), with the package price remaining at 64,000 yuan ($9,420).

According to its Chinese website, the feature covers all functions of the basic and enhanced assisted driving packages, and the complete Tesla Assisted Driving function will be “available later.”

“In the future, vehicles will be able to complete most driving tasks with minimal driver intervention,” reads Tesla China’s description of the feature.

This is not the first time Tesla has renamed its ADAS in China. In March last year, Tesla’s Chinese website changed “FSD Intelligent Assisted Driving” (FSD 智能辅助驾驶) to “Intelligent Assisted Driving” (智能辅助驾驶), removing the English letters “FSD.”

The latest naming adjustment comes at a critical juncture, sparking widespread attention.

Just yesterday, Tesla announced on the social media platform X that FSD Supervised is now available in multiple countries, including China.

This is the first time the US electric vehicle (EV) maker has officially confirmed the entry of its advanced smart driving feature into the world’s largest auto market.

The announcement follows US president Donald Trump’s visit to China last week. During the high-profile trip, Tesla CEO Elon Musk accompanied him as a business representative.

Although Tesla announced the availability of FSD Supervised in China on X, the market is still waiting for more official information to be disclosed.

There is still a lack of detailed information on how Tesla will localize and adapt to China’s complex road conditions. This will be a key focus for investors and consumers in the future.

Earlier this week, Tesla China also posted several urgent job openings related to smart driving testing.

The official roll-out of this autonomous driving technology is crucial for the next phase of Tesla’s growth in the Chinese market.

In China’s fiercely competitive auto market, Tesla is facing intense competition from local rivals such as Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) and Huawei. These domestic companies have already made complex urban smart driving systems standard features in their vehicles.

Tesla has always allowed Chinese owners to buy the software with a one-time payment. In overseas markets, however, it has canceled this option and only supports a subscription model.

Tesla’s sales in China are currently facing persistent challenges. Between January and April this year, Tesla’s retail sales in China fell 15.05% year-on-year.

Model Y retail sales in China reached 22,990 vehicles in April, up 15.04% year-on-year.
