Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has officially launched its new flagship model, the GX, a new vehicle aimed at gaining an edge in China’s increasingly competitive large SUV (sport utility vehicle) market.
The official suggested retail price range for this six-seat model is set between 279,800 yuan ($41,120) and 359,800 yuan.
To further stimulate early market demand, Xpeng is also offering limited-time vehicle purchase entitlements, bringing the actual starting price down to 269,800 yuan.
This pricing is highly aggressive and significantly lower than the pre-sales price announced a month ago.
The pre-sales price of the GX was 399,800 yuan, which was comparable to the 406,800 yuan of the flagship SUV ES8 from Nio Inc’s (NYSE: NIO) main brand.
However, the actual pricing of the flagship model ultimately aligns with the L90, the flagship three-row SUV from Nio’s mass-market sub-brand Onvo, which starts at 265,800 yuan.
This aggressive pricing strategy highlights Xpeng’s ambition to capture a larger share of the mid-to-high-end family user market.
In terms of body dimensions, the Xpeng GX demonstrates the massive size of a full-size SUV, measuring 5,265 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,115 mm.
To alleviate consumers’ range anxiety, the Xpeng GX continues the company’s dual-powertrain strategy, offering both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions.
The EREV version is equipped with a 1.5T engine as a range extender and features a 63.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
This allows the GX EREV to offer a pure electric range of 430 kilometers, while the combined range with a full tank and full charge reaches up to 1,585 kilometers.
The entire EREV lineup adopts a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system, delivering a maximum system power of 370 kW (496 hp) and a peak torque of 695 Nm.
For consumers who prefer pure electric drive, the BEV version of the GX is built on an 800-volt high-voltage silicon carbide platform and supports 5C supercharging technology.
The BEV version is available in two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive variants. The two-wheel-drive model is equipped with a 91.9-kWh LFP battery pack, providing a range of 665 kilometers, and features a 270 kW rear-drive motor.
The top-trim pure electric four-wheel-drive Ultra Flagship edition is upgraded to a 110-kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a maximum CLTC range of up to 750 kilometers.
This flagship version utilizes a front and rear dual-motor layout with a total system power of 430 kW, and can replenish 525 kilometers of range in just 12 minutes under DC fast charging.
Intelligent features are the core differentiating advantage of the Xpeng GX. The model is built according to L4 autonomous driving standards and is positioned as a robotaxi prototype.
The GX model adopts a flexible computing power allocation strategy. The entry-level Max version is equipped with one Turing AI chip, providing 750 TOPS of computing power for smart driving.
The mid-range Ultra SE version features two Turing chips, achieving 1,500 TOPS of computing power to support more complex autonomous driving scenarios.
The high-end Ultra and Ultra Flagship versions are equipped with three Turing chips, boasting 2,250 TOPS of smart driving computing power.
This high-computing-power hardware, combined with the second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA 2.0) large model, enables the GX to utilize a LiDAR-free, pure-vision solution to achieve full-scenario intelligent assisted driving.
Inside the cabin, the new vehicle adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat layout and is equipped with a 17.3-inch central control screen as well as a 21.4-inch rear roof-mounted screen.
Safety is positioned by Xpeng as another core selling point of the GX. The vehicle utilizes the industry’s largest 16,000-ton front and rear integrated die-casting technology.
In terms of chassis control, the GX is equipped with native steer-by-wire and active rear-wheel steering technologies, allowing this 5.2-meter large SUV to have a turning radius of only 5.4 meters.
In addition to its launch in China, Xpeng also plans to introduce the GX in the Middle East soon.
The model is one of the new vehicles launched by Xpeng this year as it attempts to grab more share in a highly competitive market.
The company delivered 31,011 vehicles in April, down 11.51% year-on-year, but up 13.12% sequentially from March, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
During the period from January to April this year, Xpeng delivered a cumulative total of 93,693 vehicles, a year-on-year decline of 27.40 percent.
Xpeng filed for G9L, L05, and L03 SUVs, covering both battery electric and extended-range versions.
