    • The G9L becomes Xpeng’s fourth model to be assembled locally in Europe.
    • The SUV is set for its global premiere in Paris on October 12, with Xpeng planning to bring it to 64 countries and regions.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has completed trial production of its flagship G9L SUV at Magna’s Austrian plant, advancing European localization ahead of the model’s global premiere in Paris.

The Chinese EV maker announced on Weibo on Saturday that its first locally produced G9L in Europe completed trial production on October 7 at Magna’s facility in Graz, Austria.

Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said on social media platform X on October 8 that the G9L had become Xpeng’s fourth model to be produced in Europe, further expanding its local production lineup.

The European pre-production vehicle will travel 1,324 kilometers from Graz to Paris to test its safety, charging and driving performance under real-world conditions, He said.

The journey will lead up to the G9L’s global premiere in Paris on October 12. Xpeng said the model would soon enter 64 countries and regions worldwide.

The latest milestone remains at the trial production stage. The announcements did not specify when G9L mass production or deliveries would begin in Europe, or which powertrain options would be produced locally.

Xpeng began local production in Europe in September 2025 with the G6 and G9 SUVs, using Magna’s existing production facilities in Graz.

The project relies on Magna’s contract manufacturing subsidiary, Magna Steyr, rather than a plant built and owned by Xpeng.

In January, Xpeng announced that the 2026 P7+ sedan had completed trial production at the same plant. The addition of the G9L further broadens its European production lineup.

The G9L was launched in China on September 17 as a 5-seat flagship SUV, joining the 6-seat GX in Xpeng’s dual-flagship lineup.

In China, the G9L offers battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options to meet different customer needs for charging and refueling.

Xpeng is also preparing to bring the model to right-hand-drive markets. On September 11, the company announced that the first mass-produced right-hand-drive G9L vehicles had rolled off the assembly line at its Guangzhou plant and were being prepared for shipment to Australia.

The Xpeng G9L starts at a limited-time price of 231,800 yuan ($34,300) in China, with BEV and EREV options.
