Two class actions in British Columbia allege that manufacturers conspired to fix prices of forged aluminum and steel products used in vehicles and replacement parts sold in Canada between 2002 and 2018. The lawsuits claim the alleged conduct increased vehicle and parts prices. The allegations have not been proven, and the defendants deny liability.
The court has certified the actions against Hirschvogel for settlement purposes only. Hirschvogel is a German forging manufacturer whose aluminum and steel components are used in vehicle engines, transmissions, axles and suspension parts. The aluminum class covers vehicles and parts containing forged aluminum between April 1, 2006 and April 31, 2018. The steel class covers forged steel products between Oct. 1, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2016.
Hirschvogel has agreed to a $2.5‑million settlement, subject to court approval at a hearing on Jan. 28, 2027. The settlement does not include an admission of wrongdoing. Funds will be held in trust until the actions conclude against the remaining defendants.
Class members can opt out or file objections until Dec. 15, 2026. Those who do nothing will be bound by the settlement if approved and by future decisions in the ongoing actions.
