- The new model will support Xpeng’s push to exceed 60,000 single-month sales in the fourth quarter, with plans to enter 64 countries and regions worldwide.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has launched its G9L flagship 5-seat SUV (sport utility vehicle) at a limited-time starting price of 231,800 yuan ($34,300), offering battery-electric and extended-range powertrains to compete in China’s family vehicle market.
The Chinese electric vehicle maker rolled out the G9L on Thursday with 6 variants. Official guide prices range from 241,800 yuan to 319,800 yuan, while limited-time prices range from 231,800 yuan to 309,800 yuan.
The G9L opened for pre-sales on August 11 at a starting price of 259,800 yuan. Its limited-time entry price at launch is 28,000 yuan, or about 10.8%, below the pre-sales starting price.
The model offers 4 battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants, with limited-time prices of 231,800 yuan, 249,800 yuan, 279,800 yuan and 309,800 yuan, respectively.
The 2 extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants both feature all-wheel drive, with limited-time prices of 249,800 yuan and 299,800 yuan.
The G9L joins the 6-seat GX, launched in May, in Xpeng’s flagship lineup. The models share core platform technology and target buyers of 5-seat and 6-seat SUVs, respectively.
Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said at the launch that the G9L was built to the standards of a 9-series flagship SUV, sharing multiple features with the GX to offer a flagship experience to buyers seeking a spacious 5-seater.
The vehicle measures 5,120 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,782 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. Rear-seat space and comfort features are key selling points.
The G9L offers front and rear zero-gravity seats that can recline simultaneously, creating a flat resting space more than 1.8 meters long without removing the headrests.
Cabin features include a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen, a 12.5-liter dual-zone refrigerator and a rear executive center console integrating folding tables and wireless charging.
The battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants offer CLTC ranges of 660 km, 702 km and 755 km, with rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options. The all-wheel-drive models can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 4.45 seconds.
The extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants use a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender, a 63.3-kWh battery and a 60-liter fuel tank, delivering a CLTC battery-only range of 435 km and a combined range of 1,602 km.
All G9L variants come standard with an 800-volt platform and 5C charging. Xpeng said the vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 11 minutes.
Dual-chamber air suspension, variable-damping shock absorbers and rear-wheel steering are also standard across the lineup, with a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters.
The G9L features an updated version of Xpeng’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, while the entry-level Max variant uses a distilled version.
The Max, Ultra SE and Ultra trims carry 1, 2 and 3 of Xpeng’s in-house Turing AI chips, respectively, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of effective computing power.
Xpeng is also advancing the G9L’s overseas roll-out. The company announced on September 11 that the first mass-produced right-hand-drive units had rolled off the production line at its Guangzhou plant and would soon be shipped to Australia.
The company previously said it plans to introduce the G9L in 64 countries and regions worldwide, making the model a key part of its overseas expansion.
The launch comes as Xpeng seeks to accelerate sales growth. The company delivered 39,107 vehicles in August, up 3.71% year-on-year and 2.84% from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

However, deliveries in the first 8 months of the year totaled 243,111 vehicles, still down 10.49% from a year earlier, making the ability of new models to drive a recovery a key factor in the coming months.
Mr. He said during an earnings call in August that Xpeng would aim to exceed 60,000 single-month sales in the fourth quarter as new models, including the G9L and Mona L05 SUVs, hit the market.
That target is about 53% above August deliveries. The Mona L05 is scheduled to launch in China in the fourth quarter, further broadening the company’s coverage of the SUV market.
Xpeng delivered at least 5,837 GX SUVs in August, equivalent to 81.8% of the model’s July deliveries.
