The Formula S series includes the first sedan and GT, launched under BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao. Starting at under $29,000, the electric sedan is cheaper than a Tesla Model 3.

Fang Cheng Bao, or FCB for short, is BYD’s fifth sub-brand, alongside Denza, Yangwang, and its Dynasty and Ocean series.

The “personalization-focused” FCB brand is known for its hardcore off-road electric and plug-in SUVs, like the Bao 8 and Bao 5. It also sells the Tai series, aimed at families. All feature a rugged, boxy, SUV-like design.

BYD launched the brand’s first sedan and grand touring models, aimed directly at the Tesla Model 3, Xiaomi SU7, and other top-selling electric sedans in China.

We caught a sneak peek of them at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show earlier this year, where BYD showcased everything from electric supercars to flagship SUVs.

The Formula S Series includes 5 variants: 3 sedan variants and 2 GT models, priced from 189,900 yuan to 239,900 yuan, or around $28,000 to $35,000. Both are equipped with BYD’s latest Blade Batteries and Flash Charging system.

The rear-wheel drive (RWD) Formula S sedan starts at 189,900 yuan and offers a CLTC driving range of up to 466 miles (750 km).

Upgrading to the long-range RWD version costs 209,900 yuan, but offers a CLTC range of 559 miles (900 km). The all-wheel-drive (AWD) Formula S sedan starts at 229,900 yuan and offers a CLTC range of 453 miles (730 km).

The Formula S GT, on the other hand, is available with RWD or AWD powertrains and offers CLTC ranges of 850 km and 730 km, respectively. The former starts at 219,900 yuan, and the latter costs 239,900 yuan.

All Formula S series models are equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye B assisted driving system with ADAS features such as high-speed navigation on autopilot and full-scenario intelligent parking.

BYD offers both with the choice of either its DiSus-A or DiSus-M intelligent body control system, or what it calls “One car, two personalities.”

Thanks to its flash charging technology and second-generation Blade Batteries, the Formula S series can charge from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes. To go from 10% to 97%, it takes just 9 minutes.

Inside, the electric sedan and GT feature plenty of premium extras, including 128-color wraparound ambient mood lighting, integrated sports seats, a zero-gravity front passenger seat, a 26″ AR-HUD, a three-spoke sports steering wheel, and even a 6.9L Smart Refrigerator.

Measuring 5,060 mm long, 1,967 mm wide, and 1,483 mm tall, with a 2,960 mm wheelbase, the Formula S sedan is slightly bigger than the Tesla Model 3. The GT measures 5,025 mm in length.

In comparison, the Tesla Model 3 RWD starts at 235,500 yuan ($35,000) and offers a CLTC range of 394 miles (634 km).

The long-range RWD Model 3 starts at 259,500 yuan in China with a CLTC range of up to 515 miles (830 km).

Will BYD bring the Formula S series overseas? It’s still up in the air, but BYD is selling FCB models overseas. It recently launched the Ti 7 under its own brand in the UK and Europe, the global version of the Tai 7 sold in China.
