The Most Expensive Truck Sold At Auction

This post is updated with information about Big Oly, a legendary Ford Bronco race truck which the Ram Rumble Bee / SRT-10 auction nearly surpassed with a $1.5 million bid.

Don’t be deceived by the unfortunate color combinations in the picture above. Yes, you’ve seen the new 2027 Ram 1500 Rumble Bee SRT muscle truck in yellow and black – like a bumble bee, get it? But Ram threw us a curveball: The first retail Rumble Bee, painted red and black (at right), was just auctioned off for charity for $1.5 million, along with a yellow and black 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SRT-10.

The winning bid for the package deal on Friday at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas came from Ultimate Fighting Championship President and CEO Dana White – two months after he staged the Freedom 250 cage fight on the South Lawn of the White House.

The auction was specifically timed to honor the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York City, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. “This partnership honors the extraordinary courage and selflessness of the first responders, military service members, and everyday citizens who answered the call in the minutes, hours, days, and years that followed,” Ram said.

The truck division of global automaker Stellantis collaborated on these one-of-a-kind trucks with UFC and accessory brand RealTruck. This customized Rumble Bee pairs a Direct Connection 3.0-liter supercharger with the 6.2-liter Hellcat Hemi V8 to crank out more than 900 horsepower. Other notable additions include the Direct Connection Magnaflow stainless steel cat-back performance exhaust system, satin black 22-inch rims, custom bedside graphics, and a hand-painted Molten Red Pearl and Diamond Black color scheme.

Two Trucks For The Price Of One?

RealTruck also reimagined the 2005 Ram 1500 SRT-10 pickup, powered by the Dodge Viper’s 8.3-liter 500-horsepower V10 engine. It was a high-water mark for Dodge pickups (four years before Ram split off from Dodge to become a separate division), and Ram says the 2005 pickup still holds the Guinness World Record as the “World’s Fastest Production Pickup Truck.” Besides the Viper-inspired graphics, the special retro Dodge gets custom wheels, two-tone paint, power running boards, and a soft roll-up tonneau cover for the bed.

The entire hammer price of $1.5 million will be split equally between the Folds of Honor Foundation (providing educational scholarships to the families of America’s fallen or disabled military and first responders) and the UFC Foundation (supporting Hispanic charities).

To provide some context as to just how big a number this Ram duo fetched, we have to look back to 2021. The reborn Ford Bronco was really taking off, but an old Bronco with a notable racing history crossed the auction block through Mecum for a record amount. Lest we forget, the original Bronco was also sold as a truck, and legendary racer Parnelli Jones drove a purpose-built Baja Bronco racer called Big Oly and obliterated the Baja 1000 record in 1971.

Jones and Big Oly would win a few more races until he retired the truck, only parting with it at Mecum’s 2021 auction for $1.8 million. Of course, we don’t know if Rumble Bee alone would’ve fetched its final $1.5 million auction price. Dodge Ram SRT-10s, though cool, aren’t particularly valuable, so it’s safe to assume the vast majority of that bid was for the 900-hp muscle truck.

But the fact the Ram duo got close to beating an iconic one-of-one race truck suggests Ram won’t have much trouble selling Rumble Bee SRTs for the sub-$100,000 sticker price.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

Giving generously to worthy charities is to be commended, so consider this a win-win for the UFC’s Dana White, who in return gets two trucks unlike any others. White is a master showman, so he’s probably thinking about ways to leverage these trucks in the world of mixed martial arts.

With the UFC boasting 700 million fans and more than 350 million social media followers, how many of them would like to see a fight in the bed of the Rumble Bee? Or, how about one match in the Rumble Bee and one in the customized 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SRT-10? Whoever wins gets to go home with one of the trucks. Winner’s choice!
