The one-of-one Bugatti Brouillard has officially entered private ownership, and there may not have been a more appropriate place for its handover than the Château de Chantilly in France. Bugatti used the 2026 Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille gathering to deliver the extraordinary coupe to its owner before putting it on display alongside some of the marque’s greatest cars. By the end of the weekend, Brouillard had added another distinction to its story, taking home the Best of Show award for concept cars, restomods and one-offs.
Brouillard is much more than another heavily personalized Bugatti. It is the first creation from Programme Solitaire, Bugatti’s ultra-exclusive coachbuilding program designed to produce no more than two unique automobiles each year. The program goes beyond the already extensive customization available through Bugatti Sur Mesure, allowing customers and designers to create completely individual bodywork, interiors and details around proven Bugatti engineering. Brouillard was originally revealed during Monterey Car Week in 2025 and takes its name from Ettore Bugatti’s beloved white and gray thoroughbred horse.
Underneath the bespoke bodywork sits one of the final expressions of Bugatti’s legendary W16 era. Brouillard uses the 1,600-horsepower version of the company’s quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 along with a carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis derived from Bugatti’s modern hypercar architecture. Nearly everything visible outside the car, however, was created specifically for this commission. Its flowing fixed-roof shape, metallic green finish, exposed green-tinted carbon fiber and carefully sculpted proportions make it immediately recognizable as a Bugatti without simply looking like another variation of the Chiron or W16 Mistral.
The personal touches become even more obvious inside. Brouillard incorporates horse-inspired embroidery, custom upholstery, specially woven fabrics and extensive machined aluminum detailing. One of its most memorable features is the gear selector, which contains a miniature sculpture of Ettore Bugatti’s horse beneath a glass insert. The project is a reminder of what coachbuilding can mean when money, engineering resources and production constraints are largely removed from the equation. Rather than choosing colors and options from a configurator, the owner effectively participated in creating a new Bugatti design.
Chantilly also gave Bugatti an opportunity to surround Brouillard with cars representing vastly different chapters in the company’s history. Modern machines including special Veyron and W16 Mistral models were joined by historic Bugattis such as the Type 13 Brescia, Type 35, Type 37, Type 39, Type 40 Grand Sport and Type 51. Several modern-era Bugattis also took part in driving events around Chantilly, including examples of the Veyron and the exceptionally rare Chiron Profilée. A 1925 Type 35 ultimately won its class for Bugatti racing cars, showing just how much of the company’s identity remains connected to competition machines built a century ago.
The atmosphere at Chantilly made the delivery of Brouillard feel less like a conventional new-car handover and more like the passing of a piece of automotive art into private hands. The 2026 event brought close to 30,000 visitors to the Château de Chantilly and filled the grounds with collector cars, concept vehicles and some truly remarkable machinery. Brouillard eventually appeared before the larger audience during the concours festivities and led the Bugatti parade before receiving its Best of Show honor. For a car built around the idea of modern coachbuilding, winning at one of Europe’s major concours events was a fitting start to its life.
Brouillard also arrives at an interesting moment for Bugatti. The company is transitioning away from the W16 that defined the Veyron and Chiron generations as it prepares the V16-powered Tourbillon for the next chapter, yet Programme Solitaire provides a way for Bugatti to keep exploring highly individual creations based on its existing engineering. In that sense, Brouillard serves as both an ending and a beginning. It celebrates the mechanical excess of Bugatti’s W16 era while reviving the sort of bespoke coachbuilding that helped establish the marque more than a century ago. If this first Programme Solitaire project is any indication, some of the most fascinating future Bugattis may also be the ones built only once.
