Cumulative deliveries of Nio Inc’s (NYSE: NIO) third-generation ES8 have reached 140,000, with the latest 10,000 completed in about 1 month, showing that the large electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) is maintaining strong momentum following the addition of a 5-seat version.
The vehicle marking 140,000 cumulative deliveries of the third-generation ES8 was handed over on Friday at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, exactly 1 year after the model made its debut.
The third-generation ES8 took 335 days to reach the latest milestone after deliveries began in September 2025.
The ES8 reached 130,000 cumulative deliveries on July 22 in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, meaning the latest 10,000 took just 30 days.
The 5-seat version has been one of the key drivers of recent sales. The variant was launched on July 9 and deliveries began the following day, expanding the ES8’s reach from the premium three-row SUV segment into the large 5-seat market.
Before the 5-seat version was added, cumulative deliveries of the ES8’s 6-seat and 7-seat versions had already exceeded 120,000 units. The new variant lowered the entry threshold for buyers while broadening the flagship model’s appeal for both business and family use.
Nio cited the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Friday as showing that the ES8 had retail sales of 10,284 units in July, ranking first among large SUVs and vehicles in the 400,000-yuan ($58,980) price segment in China.
The ES8 also ranked first in cumulative sales in both segments in the January-July period, Nio said.

The model delivered 88,947 units in the first 7 months of the year, accounting for 39.17% of Nio Inc’s total deliveries during the period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
ES8 monthly deliveries briefly fell below 10,000 units in June as some consumers waited for the 5-seat version. With deliveries of the new variant underway, the model returned above 10,000 units in July.
For Nio, sustained ES8 volume also helps increase the share of higher-priced models in its sales mix. The company also launched the more premium ES9 this year, with the 2 large battery electric SUVs forming its flagship product lineup.
Nio is displaying models from its Nio, Onvo and firefly brands at the Chengdu Auto Show, where it is also showcasing its fifth-generation battery swap station for the first time.
Nio said it has so far deployed 179 battery swap stations and 244 charging stations across Sichuan and Tibet, while connecting users to 119,636 third-party charging piles.
The 2026 Chengdu International Motor Show runs from August 21 to August 30 at the Western China International Expo City in Chengdu, and is one of the largest annual auto shows in western China.
The Nio ES8’s NPS reached 85.3, the highest among China’s all-electric models, and is the core pillar of the Nio brand’s recommendation score.
Update: Added “third-gen” to the headline to clarify that this milestone pertains to the third-generation ES8.
