Jeep is leaning into the culture that has helped make the Wrangler more than just another SUV with the new 2027 Wrangler Smoky Mountain special edition. Revealed at the 14th annual Smoky Mountain Invasion in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the model is the 10th entry in Jeep’s Twelve 4 Twelve Wrangler series and was created with the enthusiast community squarely in mind. That makes the setting especially fitting, considering the event brings together nearly 50,000 attendees and around 20,000 Jeep vehicles for a weekend centered on off-roading, customization, and the social side of Jeep ownership.
Underneath the special graphics and trim, the Smoky Mountain edition starts with the Wrangler Willys platform, which is a solid foundation for anyone who actually plans to leave the pavement. Jeep includes Dana 44 front and rear axles, a locking rear differential, a 4.10 axle ratio, steel rock rails, a trailer hitch, and standard 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. Buyers who want a little more presence and capability can move up to available 35-inch KO2s. Powertrain choices include the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an automatic transmission or the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 paired with an automatic.
The visual changes strike a good balance between special-edition flair and the Wrangler’s familiar rugged look. Smoky Mountain hood graphics draw inspiration from the surrounding peaks and trails, while 17-inch smoky black wheels, a Gloss Black seven-slot grille, body-color fender flares, and a matching hardtop give the four-door Wrangler a cleaner and more upscale appearance than a standard Willys. Inside, Jeep has gone further than simply adding a badge to the dashboard. Black Ferndale cloth seats get a more rugged embossed texture along with deeper bolsters, while the upper sections feature a 1941 Willys parachute graphic that ties into Jeep’s military heritage and its ongoing “drop” theme. Terracotta stitching and metallic Blaze Orange accents add some warmth to an otherwise dark cabin, while anodized carbon trim rings and a technical-pattern instrument panel help distinguish this edition from a typical Wrangler. There are also some playful details, including a mama bear and cub graphic on the shifter medallion and a special plaque on the rear swing gate depicting the Wrangler drop motif against a Smoky Mountain night sky.
What may make the Smoky Mountain edition particularly appealing is how little Jeep is charging for the package relative to a comparably equipped Wrangler Willys. Jeep says the special edition costs just $80 more than a popularly configured Willys, which is unusual in a market where limited-edition appearance packages can often command a much larger premium. Orders are open now, and while Jeep has been steadily rolling out distinct Wrangler variants through its Twelve 4 Twelve program, this one feels especially well targeted. It offers legitimate off-road hardware, tasteful design changes, and a direct connection to one of the most active enthusiast gatherings in the country without asking buyers to pay a substantial premium just for exclusivity.
