The GAC Aion Ray 7 is shown in an official teaser image released by GAC Aion.

    • Ray 7 is powered by a 180-kW motor supplied by Huawei and emphasizes sporty handling.
    • The all-electric sedan measures 4,960 mm in length and will be the first model to feature GAC Aion’s new logo.

GAC Aion, a brand of GAC Group (HKEX: 2238), will officially debut the Ray 7 on August 19, kicking off a new model lineup aimed at younger consumers.

Zhang Xiong, president of the GAC Hyptec and Aion Business Unit, disclosed the plan on Chinese social media platform Weibo on Sunday.

The Ray 7 is the first model in the Ray lineup, which GAC Aion describes as a “super electric sedan loved by young people.”

Zhang said the new model will emphasize sporty handling and feature an advanced driver-assistance system.

The Ray 7 will also be the first model to adopt GAC Aion’s new brand logo. Its front end features a full-width star-ring light strip, while the logo itself can be illuminated.

The five-seat sedan measures 4,960 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,455 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, placing it in the mid-to-large-size segment.

The car features a low-slung, wide-body stance and fastback profile, along with semi-hidden door handles and a blacked-out C-pillar. It will be available with 17-inch and 19-inch wheels.

For power, the Ray 7 is equipped with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor supplied by Huawei with a peak output of 180 kW (241 hp), according to its regulatory filing.

The model uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. Battery cells for its 2 filed variants are supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750) and Yinpai Battery, the latter being GAC Aion’s battery subsidiary.

GAC Aion said the Ray 7 will be the world’s first production vehicle equipped with what it calls a “Super Chassis” featuring a chip-level drive-control integration architecture.

Its driver-assistance system uses a LiDAR-based solution, with algorithms derived from the same technology base as Level 4 autonomous driving. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor will be optional.

The Ray 7’s upcoming debut will pave the way for its public appearance at the 2026 Chengdu Auto Show, China’s first A-class Auto Show of the second half of the year, which will run from August 21 through August 30.

The new lineup is arriving as GAC Aion’s sales recover. The brand sold 28,807 vehicles in July, up 36.37% year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

GAC Aion sold 210,386 vehicles in the first 7 months of the year, up 62.08% year-on-year.

That marks a reversal from its downturn in 2025, when the brand sold 290,081 vehicles for the full year, down 22.62% from a year earlier.
