Eccentrica Just Built A Better V12 Diablo Roadster Than Lamborghini

The restomod Diablo you’ve been waiting for is here. A car that feels far too new to be this darn old has just been completely reworked by a company called Eccentrica. It has taken the factory Diablo and transformed it with more than 3,500 new parts to make something that will show up your neighbor’s suddenly boring 1980s Porsche 911.

This time, it’s a convertible getting the treatment, giving you the wind in your toupee.

The Retro V12 Tribute That Looks Better Than Lamborghini’s Own

It’s been two years since Eccentrica launched its first reimagined Lamborghini Diablo. That car, called La Prima (Italian for The First), took a bow at Monterey Car Week and blew minds along with the sounds from its 5.7-liter V12.

This V12 Roadster isn’t some cobbled-together project; Eccentrica has some shockingly serious talent onboard. The team includes Maurizio Reggiani, the former Chief Technical Officer at Lamborghini, who led the Murcielago project as well as the Huracan and Aventador.

The team has created a whole new body for the Diablo, using steel and carbon fiber and widening the track to give it a more planted stance. Even taking off the roof wasn’t as simple as taking off the roof. The group did a full aerodynamic study of the car to make sure that, with the roof off, the car would still have the proper airflow to cool the engine, but also to improve the experience inside.

Eccentrica’s end result is an early Diablo that looks like something Lamborghini put out just last year. It is a better modern tribute to the original than the factory efforts Lamborghini has built, like the Countach LPI 800. The only details that don’t work, even after the 100th glance, are the angel eyes around the headlights.

The company has taken the 5.7-liter Lamborghini V12 and rebuilt it for sharper throttle response, a wider power band, but also for a more immediate power delivery. The remapped engine makes 550 horsepower, 65 ponies more than the original Roadster.

Even better, that engine lives in a car that weighs just under 3,400 pounds. And it gets a six-speed manual transmission driving just the rear wheels.

How Many Of These Custom-Created Roadsters Will Eccentrica Build?

Other modern upgrades lurk under the carbon fiber-reinforced chassis. The suspension geometry has been redone with modern engineering, there are semi-active dampers lurking to balance comfort and handling, and there are modern Brembo brakes to make sure it can stop every time.

Naturally, it’s more luxurious inside as well. A mix of Connolly leather and Alcántara microfiber cover the soft-touch spots. Anodized finishes and exposed carbon fiber adorn the bits that are meant to be hard.

Eccentrica plans to build just 19 V12 Roadsters, alongside the 19 coupes. Each one of the cars will be made bespoke for its new owner, so they can probably get any color or fabric in the world. It’s good to commission a car, instead of taking one off the shelf.

The Eccentrica V12 Roadster will make its debut at the same place as the coupe. The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, part of Monterey Car Week 2026 on August 14.
