Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) will hold the global debut of the G9L SUV (sport utility vehicle) on August 11 and start pre-sales at the same time, paving the way for the globally targeted flagship to enter the sales stage.
The event will be held at 7:00 pm Beijing Time (7:00 am US Eastern Time) that day in Guangzhou, where the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker is headquartered, the company said on Weibo on Monday.
Xpeng has been teasing the G9L since August 3, calling it a “global large five-seat tech flagship” and aiming to make it a “technology benchmark” in China’s 300,000-yuan ($44,180) segment.
The G9L and the six-seat GX, launched in May, form Xpeng’s twin-flagship lineup. The two models share core platform technologies and target different groups of family users.
The project was launched three years ago and road-tested across 26 countries and regions, validated in complex road conditions and extreme environments worldwide, with cumulative test mileage of more than 6.74 million kilometers, Xpeng said on August 7.
The vehicle is built on an 800-volt platform and can add 450 km of range in 9 minutes, according to Xpeng.
It will debut the first major upgrade of Xpeng’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, with effective computing power of up to 2,250 TOPS.
Xpeng said the G9L is the world’s first model that lets front- and rear-row zero-gravity seats recline simultaneously with one tap, switching to a flat bed of more than 1.8 meters without removing the headrests.
Its AI-adaptive zero-gravity seats sense body changes in real time and cover nearly 98% of global body types, the company said.
The G9L is 5,120 mm long with a 3,100 mm wheelbase and a curb weight of about 2.72 tons, according to its filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The model will also be offered as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), continuing Xpeng’s dual-powertrain strategy.
Xpeng delivered 38,027 vehicles globally in July, up 3.57% year-on-year but down 5.23% from June. In the first seven months of the year, it delivered 204,004 vehicles, down 12.78% year-on-year.
Xpeng delivered 103,295 vehicles in the second quarter, within its earlier guidance range of 100,000 to 106,000 units.
