Toyota has taken the GR Corolla to its most extreme point yet with the 2026 GRMN Corolla, a limited-run hot hatch built with lessons learned from Japan’s Super Taikyu racing series and development work aimed at serious track driving. The catch is the price. At a reported $65,655, this is no longer just a rowdy compact performance bargain. It now lives in the same shopping conversation as machines like the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, Audi S5, and with only a small stretch, the BMW M2.

The GRMN treatment starts with weight, grip, cooling, and aero rather than a dramatic horsepower bump. Toyota removes the rear seats to save 66 pounds, turning the car into a two-seat track weapon, and fits Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for the kind of bite normally reserved for serious weekend hardware. The 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder still makes 300 horsepower, but torque climbs slightly to 302 pound-feet, with the added shove focused on the midrange where drivers need it most when powering out of corners.

Visually, the GRMN Corolla makes its intentions clear. A new carbon-fiber hood adds extra ducting, while carbon-fiber fender outlets, front side spoilers, and an adjustable rear wing help manage airflow and downforce. The rear wing can be set in five positions at one-degree intervals, which is the kind of detail that tells you Toyota is targeting drivers who actually care about balance at speed. This is not just a sticker package with a louder exhaust note.

Toyota also reworked the suspension with front and rear monotube dampers, rebound springs, revised bump stops, and updates meant to keep the inside tire more planted during hard cornering. The electric power steering and GR-Four all-wheel-drive system are recalibrated as well, with more rearward torque distribution in a straight line and improved high-speed stability when steering input is added. Buyers also get semi-bucket front sport seats, a one-year National Auto Sport Association membership, and one high-performance driving instruction session included with the car.

The 2026 GRMN Corolla is expected to arrive later this summer, with global production limited to just 730 units. That rarity will help justify the price for collectors and dedicated Toyota Gazoo Racing fans, but it also makes this car a fascinating debate piece. On paper, nearly $66,000 for a Corolla sounds wild. On track, with its weight reduction, aero work, suspension tuning, Cup 2 tires, and motorsports development baked in, the GRMN Corolla is trying to prove it is not just an expensive Corolla. It is Toyota’s most serious factory-built hot hatch yet.
