Toyota Turns Up The Heat On F-150 Tremor With The Upgraded Tundra TRD Pro

The flagship Toyota Tundra off-roader is getting some revised mechanicals for 2027 in a bid to keep the full-size pickup as modern as possible. Part of the slow rollout of information on the new model year that started with the announcement of a Tundra Trailhunter trim, the TRD Pro receives new suspension bits that will also be shared with the Sequoia TRD Pro, giving both of Toyota’s big off-road bruisers a little more to brag about.

    Smoother And More Rugged

The Sequoia and Tundra TRD Pro, which will offer a very unique shade of Honeycomb paint for 2027, also receive some pretty interesting suspension changes under the bold, gold skin. The updated full-sizers will receive specially tuned versions of Fox QS3 remote-reservoir shock absorbers, which first showed up in the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro and 2025 4Runner TRD Pro.

The QS3s offer three adjustable levels of stiffness for different on- and off-road situations, with a manual switch at the bottom of each shock body. Although not a fully active system, the new Fox shocks should still give Tundra and Sequoia owners a bit more flexibility with their trucks, selecting the full-soft mode for rock-crawling and then stiffening things up once it’s time to get back on the pavement.

Both the Sequoia and the Tundra also get a new-for-2027 set of bright red tow hooks on the front bumper, as well as a slightly redesigned front end with the Rigid LED off-road light bar repositioned lower in the grille. The grille opening itself has also been reshaped, with a body-color accent splitting it up from the bumper for a less maw-like front end appearance. The changes are slight, but we like what Toyota has done.

    Newly Optional Performance Hardware

The most compelling addition the automaker will make to the 2027 Sequoia and Tundra is a TRD Pro Performance package – mentioned in the press release with surprising nonchalance – which “enhances the truck’s already robust character with hardware and tuning aimed at drivers who want even more dynamic performance.” We’ve asked Toyota for clarification as to what that new kit entails, but we haven’t received word yet.

We presume it’ll uncork a little extra power from the twin-turbocharged, hybridized 3.4-liter V6 in both TRD Pro models, which currently makes 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet in the outgoing 2026 models. Some minor electrical retuning could unleash 450 hp and 600 lb-ft without much trouble, giving Toyota an unapologetic rival to the Ford F-150 Raptor’s EcoBoost V6 that makes “just” 510 lb-ft.

A Toyota seat… with its own suspension system.Toyota

The Tacoma TRD Pro will also donate one of its more polarizing features to the Tundra by way of ISO Dynamic front seats. The automaker didn’t show photos of the high-tech suspension seat design in the full-size truck, but in the Taco, it takes up an alarming amount of room for passengers in back (see above). The Tundra has pretty impressive legroom in the rear seat, so hopefully the ISO Dynamic hardware is a better fit.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters:

Toyota’s TRD Pro trucks and SUVs hang their hats on consistent improvement year over year, and we think the Tundra and Sequoia’s revised suspension hardware and unspecified “performance package” could be enough to keep off-road enthusiasts interested. The automaker will reveal more details closer to the 2027 models’ on-sale date this fall.
