Lamborghini To Celebrate Miura At Monterey, But The Special Edition Has Already Been leaked

Lamborghini is getting ready to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first supercar at one of the most prestigious car events in the world. But even though the Miura’s 60th anniversary party and a display of more than 40 cars is set for three weeks away, we already know there’s a special edition coming. Even though the Italian car company said it won’t do another retro supercar after the Countach of 2021.

Miura’s Big Event Is Getting A Dull Special

Shortly after Lamborghini unveiled the Miura at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966, it was adorned with the word Supercar. The first car, depending on the story you believe, to ever get that moniker.

60 years later, it is still one of the most stunning designs ever hammered out in metal. “Few automobiles have changed the course of history the way the Miura did,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini. “It wasn’t simply a beautiful car or an engineering milestone, it changed how the world imagined performance, design, and desire.”

Lamborghini is never one to pass up a special edition, and the Miura’s birthday will not change that. According to The Supercar Blog, which discovered it through a since-removed post by Lamborghini Club Russia, this special edition won’t be anything like the LPI 800-4 Countach unveiled at Monterey Car Week in 2022.

That car was a very restyled Sian FKP 37, complete with 6.5-liter V12. It had the huge side skirts of the original, but not many other details in common with a real Countach.

    Special Edition Has Leaked Early

This one, at least in the leaked image, will be a paint and sticker package. A black Revuelto with gold side skirts, gold front bumper, and gold wheels will get a special Miura 60 badge. Aside from that, it will be standard Revuelto, including the 813-hp V12 and hybrid boost to 1,001 hp.

Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary for the Miura was a similar package for the Aventador. Red paint, gold trim and wheels, and some stickers. It’s not exactly what the original supercar deserves, but it’s better than the treatment the car got in The Italian Job.

Why won’t Lamborghini do something like the Countach again? As Winkelmann said in 2022, “I’m not in favor of redoing cars. I look at the Miura [2006 concept] and think it’s great, but I think we really need to be focused on the future and we want to look back and say we were the ones who made new icons, not just copied old ones.”

New icons, clearly, can mean a variety of things. One of those things being a tired special edition. Still, the original sold out in a hurry and this one probably will too. Lamborghini is making 99 copies, so there should be plenty of them to go around.

CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters

The Miura deserves better. Lamborghini is no stranger to few-off and even one-off cars. It’s understandable that the company doesn’t want to dredge up its past in the form of retro design, but surely it can make something better than a paint and sticker package? Doing this instead shows exactly what Lamborghini seems to think about its customers.
