Kia’s next electric van is hard to miss on the road [Video]

The PV5 has turned into a bigger hit than even Kia expected. Now Kia’s next electric van, the PV7, is almost ready to make its “big” debut.

When is Kia launching the PV7 electric van?

Kia wants to be more than a company that builds cars. It’s evolving into what it calls a “sustainable solutions provider,” and its new electric van business is leading the way.

At the heart of it all is Kia’s new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) business, a lineup of high-tech, customizable all-electric vans designed for personal and commercial use.

The PV5 went on sale last year, a midsize model and the first from Kia’s PBV business. Up until recently, it was primarily sold in Passenger and Cargo variants. Kia has since introduced several new PV5 derivatives, including a 7-seater and Cargo High Roof.

While Kia continues expanding the PV5 lineup, it’s preparing to introduce its second electric van in 2027.

The PV7 will go on sale in 2027 as a bigger sibling to the PV5. We caught a sneak peek earlier this month, when it was seen driving in public in South Korea.

A new video from HealerTV offers a better look at its size on the road. Although it’s covered, it appears to have a few slight design changes from the PV5. For one, it appears to have two charge ports: One up front like the PV5, but another port appears to be hidden on the rear passenger side.

At one point during the video (1:25), the PV7 is shown over a speed bump, with the wheelbase nearly stretching all the way across it.

The PV7 is also shown on a car carrier that makes the truck it’s sitting on look tiny. The PV7’s wheelbase appears to be about the same as the carrier’s.

The reporter pointed out that it not only looks longer but also wider, which will open up more interior space.

While it’s hard to determine in the video, the PV7 is expected to be equipped with Hyundai’s Pleos software and infotainment system.

We will have to wait until closer to its official launch for final details. The PV7 Concept that Kia revealed at the 2024 CES measured 5,270 mm in length, 2,065 mm in width, and 2,120 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,390 mm.

For comparison, the PV5 Passenger is considerably smaller at 4,695 mm in length, 2,895 mm in width, and 1,915 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,995 mm.

Following the PV7 in 2027, Kia will launch the larger PV9 in 2029. Kia set a PBV sales target of 232,000 by 2030 with a full lineup of electric vans, including the PV5, PV7, and PV9.
