    • The Cruiser 700’s powertrain delivers a combined output of 830 kW (1,113 hp) and supports a wading depth of up to 800 mm.
    • Following its debut, the model will make an appearance in Milan, Italy, on July 26.

Geely Auto’s (HKEX: 0175) sub-brand Geely Galaxy has unveiled its first rugged off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle), the Cruiser 700 (or Zhanjian 700), as it targets China’s fast-growing hardcore SUV segment.

The Cruiser 700 made its official debut on Friday, and is expected to go on sale later this year.

Following its debut in China, the model will appear in Milan, Italy, on July 26 for an overseas showcase.

The Cruiser 700 features a boxy body and rugged lines, with a full-width daytime running light at the front and an illuminated Geely Galaxy logo in the center.

At the rear, it has vertically arranged rounded-rectangular taillights, a side-hinged tailgate and an externally mounted spare tire, giving it the classic appearance of a rugged off-roader.

A roof-mounted LiDAR unit supports advanced assisted-driving capabilities.

The vehicle measures 5,085 mm in length and 1,999 mm in width, with height options of 1,895 mm, 1,912 mm and 1,925 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,900 mm.

Inside, the Cruiser 700 features a large floating central display and a full-width digital instrument panel, while retaining multiple physical buttons, an aircraft-throttle-style gear selector and a rotary drive-mode selector.

The vehicle has a five-seat layout and offers a concealed roll cage, an 18.5-liter onboard refrigerator and more than 100 factory-developed off-road accessories.

The Cruiser 700 is powered by a tri-motor, four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid system and is equipped with differential locks. The powertrain delivers a combined output of 830 kW (1,113 hp, 1,128 Ps).

Its power-to-weight ratio reaches 392 Ps per ton, enabling quicker and stronger acceleration as well as sustained climbing capability on desert slopes.

Geely Galaxy claims the vehicle has the highest power-to-weight ratio of any mass-produced off-road vehicle globally, as well as the highest combined system output among mass-produced plug-in hybrid off-road vehicles.

All Cruiser 700 variants are equipped with a 47.14-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CATL (HKEX: 3750), offering an electric-only range of 165 km to 185 km.

The vehicle uses Geely’s in-house developed GVMC (Geely Vehicle Motion Control) system, which the company says enables it to complete the moose test at a speed of 80 km/h.

Its AI-powered four-wheel-drive system can automatically switch between front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. It also integrates crab-walk mode, tank turns, continued driving after a tire blowout and continuous automatic obstacle avoidance.

The Cruiser 700 also has a wading depth of 800 mm and supports satellite communications.

The model’s debut comes as Chinese automakers accelerate their expansion into the rugged SUV market. Local manufacturers including BYD (HKEX: 1211) and GWM (HKEX: 2333) have already introduced multiple models in the segment.

The new vehicle is seen as critical to reviving momentum at Geely Galaxy. The brand was previously one of Geely’s fastest-growing sub-brands, but its momentum has slowed significantly this year.

Geely Galaxy sold 108,206 vehicles in June, up 19.93% year-on-year and 32.40% from May, ending 5 consecutive months of year-on-year declines.

The brand sold 519,793 vehicles in the first half of the year, down 5.22% year-on-year.
