    Automotive

The 2027 Infiniti QX65 represents one of Infiniti’s most important new SUVs in years. Essentially a sleek, coupe-inspired sibling to the three-row QX60, the QX65 is really in the spirit of the original FX crossover that helped define the luxury sport-SUV segment over two decades ago, in 2003. With dramatic styling, a beautifully finished cabin, and a comfortable driving experience, the QX65 succeeds in bringing some fresh energy to the brand.

From the outside, the QX65 is easily one of the most attractive vehicles Infiniti has produced in recent memory. Its long hood, rakish roofline, illuminated grille, sculpted bodywork, and full-width LED lighting create a premium, modern look that stands apart from many of the more conservative luxury SUVs in the market. Unlike some coupe SUVs that sacrifice practicality for style, the QX65 retains useful cargo space and comfortable seating for five (including rear headroom!), making it a practical daily driver despite its fastback profile.

Inside, Infiniti has created an all-new upscale cabin that feels genuinely luxurious. High-quality leather, genuine wood trim, soft-touch materials, and excellent fit & finish you expect from the brand give the interior an expensive feel. Dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google-based connectivity, available massaging front seats, and an impressive-sounding Klipsch premium audio system make the cabin both comfortable and technologically competitive for the first time. Road noise is exceptionally well controlled thanks to active noise cancellation, which really reinforced the new Infiniti’s very premium character.

The only downside in my opinion, is when we get to the overall power and performance. Here, the QX65 loses some ground, as its dynamism doesn’t quite live up to its athletic appearance. Infiniti uses a 268-horsepower 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, and while this engine delivers respectable torque and smooth everyday acceleration, it lacks the extra grunt that I was hoping for in a luxury crossover in this segment. The upside of this smaller engine is excellent fuel mileage of 26 mpg on the highway.

The other good news is ride quality, which is excellent. The suspension absorbs rough pavement without complaint, while maintaining good body control through corners. Steering is accurate, if just a little numb, making the QX65 more of a refined grand tourer than a true sport SUV. Buyers expecting the sharp handling of a German performance crossover may come away less than excited, but those prioritizing comfort and ride quality will likely be quite happy with the new QX.

Pricing starts around $62,500 and climbs into the low-$70,000 range with the Technology Package and just a few options, placing the QX65 closer to strong competitors such as the Genesis GV80 Coupe, Lexus RX500h, and BMW X6. While the QX doesn’t get close to the performance of those rivals, it does offer fresh styling, a quiet and luxurious interior, generous standard equipment, and strong everyday usability, while delivering a commendable 26 mpg on the highway.

Overall, the 2027 Infiniti QX65 is a fresh and welcome addition to Infiniti’s lineup. It delivers striking design, genuine luxury, and very impressive comfort. For buyers seeking a high-quality, stylish, refined luxury crossover rather than an outright performance machine, the QX65 should definitely be on your list.
