The traditional logic that we’ve always followed states: cruisers are supposed to be V-twins. But these engines are usually expensive to produce and have weight penalties over other engines. Not to mention that if you keep them for a long time, servicing the heads is twice the work. Thus, the parallel-twin configuration has been gaining steam over the V-twin in the cruiser market. This is particularly true for the budget end, at least.
There is quite a bit of variety as well; there are parallel-twin cruisers with SOHC heads, DOHC heads, air cooling, liquid cooling, 180-degree firing orders, 270-degree firing orders, and they come from manufacturers from pretty much everywhere except America. Plus, due to the advantages over V-twins, buyers usually tend to keep these parallel-twin bikes longer than other bikes. Here are five prime examples.

Honda Rebel 500

The Rebel 500 is the smallest Honda cruiser with more than one cylinder, and it is the kind of budget cruiser that riders keep for years. That isn’t a surprise when you realize it is powered by the same driveline present in the NX500, which has legendary reliability. It makes nearly 47 horsepower, meaning beginners won’t outgrow it easily, and workshop costs will stay low. ABS is now a standard feature for the price, which is a positive step from Honda.
The surprising things are that it does not get a TFT instrument cluster yet, and it’s the Rebel 300 that gets the E-Clutch system, but not the 500. Still, Honda has given it a couple of modern conveniences like the 12-volt charging socket, and the aftermarket for the Rebel 500 is quite robust, so customizing it to your requirements shouldn’t be too difficult.

Kawasaki Vulcan S

The Vulcan S is a superlative product when it comes to the midweight cruiser. It has a trellis frame that uses the engine as a stressed member, based on the Ninja 650 and Z650. It also has Kawasaki’s Ergo-Fit system, which allows you to adjust the position of the footpegs and handlebars for a much more comfortable rider triangle. This engine is surprisingly revvy for a cruiser, and is so bulletproof that it quietly outlasts Harleys costing twice as much.
Where it lacks is in the same place as the Rebel 500: it does not have a TFT instrument display, which the naked and the sport bike have in the Kawasaki portfolio. Also, the base price does not include ABS. If you add ABS to it, it climbs to $8,149. If you want the Vulcan S to look a little better, the Vulcan S Cafe ABS is offered in a two-tone blue colorway with a tinted visor. This commands a $600 premium over the Vulcan S ABS.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650

The Super Meteor 650 is part of Royal Enfield’s resurgence from eight years ago. It was the third product on its 650 cc platform, and it is arguably the best-looking. The retro look and the quality of the fit and finish are top-notch. It is still built to a particular price, though, which is why the engine is air/oil-cooled and has an SOHC head. You still get four valves per cylinder, and it is one of the cheapest parallel-twin engines offered with a 270-degree firing order.
Most of its instrumentation is analog, with the exception of the Tripper pod, which is a TFT display that has Bluetooth and navigation equipped. If you plan on using the Super Meteor 650 for long rides, then you need to pick up one of the Celestial variants with the two-tone colorway. This offers you a touring seat with much more comfort than the standard seat, a pillion backrest, and a bolt-on windshield. The Super Meteor 650 has proven its reliability and fun-to-ride credentials over the years, although it could use a little better ride quality from the rear suspension. Still, you get big road presence without high costs, so it is a win.

The Rebel 1100 is the most balanced choice for a cruiser in 2026. It is friendly enough that a beginner can start riding on it without feeling intimidated, and at the same time, a more advanced rider will not get bored with it easily. There are two variants on offer. The regular Rebel 1100 is like you’d expect a cruiser to be, whereas the Rebel 1100T has a handlebar-mounted fairing and hard luggage packaged with it, which makes it a light tourer.
As far as the transmission is concerned, you have the option of a six-speed manual gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch, or the six-speed dual-clutch automatic that is present in other Honda motorcycles as well. This is a very unstressed engine that prefers to offer a lot more torque rather than a high horsepower figure. It also has a 270-degree firing order like the Royal Enfield, so you don’t particularly miss a V-twin engine. This is also a very complete cruiser features-wise; it has ABS, a radial front brake caliper, and a five-inch TFT display with Bluetooth and navigation.

Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster

Triumph offers two cruisers but sticks to the parallel-twin configuration. The Bonneville Bobber is the good-looking one, but the Bonneville Speedmaster is easier to live with on a daily basis. Triumph has done an excellent job of mixing retro looks with a truly modern machine under the sheet metal. It goes for a bit of brute-force torque with a large-displacement engine, but it has four valves per cylinder, liquid cooling, and a six-speed gearbox like any other modern motorcycle.
This translates to some very strong in-gear performance. Safety is also top-notch with a by-wire throttle and six-axis IMU. As far as rider comfort is concerned, we know the pillion will be very happy with how roomy and comfortable the passenger seat is, and it is standard on the Speedmaster. This is the kind of cruiser that makes long highway days feel short, both for rider and pillion.
