Lotus has never strayed far from its core philosophy of building lightweight sports cars that prioritize driving purity above all else. While modern safety regulations and technology have inevitably added weight to today’s performance machines, the British automaker is proving with the new 2027 Lotus Emira 420 Sport that the original spirit of Colin Chapman is still very much alive. With more power, sharper handling, and meaningful weight savings, the latest Emira takes the already impressive mid-engine coupe to a much more focused level.

At the heart of the Emira 420 Sport is a revised version of Lotus’ turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Output now climbs to 414 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Emira currently available. Interestingly, it now surpasses the supercharged V6 model in both horsepower and torque, giving buyers a compelling reason to consider the smaller engine option. Paired exclusively with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Emira 420 Sport delivers a factory-estimated 0-60 mph time of just 3.7 seconds while continuing on to a top speed of 186 mph.

Lotus did not stop with straight-line performance. The Emira 420 Sport sits 5 millimeters lower than the standard Turbo model and benefits from suspension revisions designed to maximize grip and precision. Higher-performance tires and aerodynamic tweaks also improve cooling for both the engine and brakes without adding unnecessary bulk. The result is a sports car that feels even more dialed in for spirited driving and track use while maintaining the balance and communication Lotus vehicles are known for.

For enthusiasts wanting the ultimate version, Lotus offers an optional Lightweight Handling Pack that takes the Emira’s performance credentials even further. The package removes 55 pounds from the coupe’s curb weight and adds an equal amount of downforce. It also introduces two-way adjustable Multimatic dampers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, a titanium exhaust system, lightweight lithium-ion battery, additional carbon-fiber components, and the Lotus Track Performance app. Combined, the upgrades transform the Emira into a much more serious track-ready machine without sacrificing its road-going character.

Visually, the Emira 420 Sport receives several exclusive touches that help distinguish it from the rest of the lineup. Buyers can choose from 16 exterior colors, though the standout is undoubtedly Tangelo Orange, a shade deeply rooted in Lotus’ motorsport heritage. An optional exterior carbon-fiber package swaps several body components including the front splitter, side sills, rear spoiler, and diffuser surround for lightweight carbon-fiber pieces that add both style and function.

Inside, Lotus continues to focus on the driver while adding a few premium touches. The cabin features 12-way adjustable seats and revised carbon-fiber paddle shifters designed to deliver a more tactile feel during aggressive driving. One of the more interesting additions is a removable tinted glass roof panel, allowing owners to enjoy an open-air experience without moving to a traditional convertible design. Lotus says the panel can be stored conveniently behind the seats in a protective bag when not in use.

Pricing for the 2027 Lotus Emira 420 Sport starts at $125,400, positioning it about $10,000 above the V6 SE model. While that places it firmly into serious sports car territory, the added performance and exclusivity may justify the premium for buyers seeking one of the most engaging driver’s cars in the segment. With deliveries expected to begin in August 2026, the Emira 420 Sport looks poised to further cement Lotus’ reputation for building some of the most rewarding performance cars on the road today.
